I absolutely have a 6 speed E90 on my radar in the next few years. Glad to be able to answer some questions. If you go to about 2:40 in this video, you can see where I'm parked in that picture, the drive down to the coast - love when this road is this quiet we can dawdle and take in the sights - and then I run it just up to the, ahem, "posted speed limit" on the PCH once we get down there before slowing it by half and enjoying the scenery on the way to Neptune's Net. I had put in 'Race Gas' which is 98 octane and available at one of my local gas stations (we have 91 as highest regular gas here, the car would prefer 93) but since I run cats, not actual leaded real race gas before going out that day, the butt dyno & additional tire squeak out of corners said it made a difference, but it's not like it made a huge difference. https://vimeo.com/206479242 Ether Frenzy fucked around with this message at 01:52 on Sep 1, 2017 |

I just bought shitbox number 11 (I think, I've lost count). It is, however, My First Toyota. When I bought it the rear hatch wouldn't open, back glass didn't move, the whole thing was disgusting, and 4x4 only worked if you hit the actuator with a hammer... I figured since it worked at all it was probably something I could fix, took a gamble and talked the guy down to $3000. I had to do some pro-fabricobbling to get the hatch working without buying expensive parts. The 4x4 actuator took a bit of tinkering, but everything works now. Pretty happy none of the repairs cost me any money. I also spent almost 2 hours cleaning the interior... The PO was a family with kids, dude was super meticulous about maintenance, but wife wasn't about interior cleanliness... Car has 220k miles, new frame, new steering rack, new brake and fuel lines, looks like a new gas tank as well. Good tires, working front/rear AC and heat, and now that I've fixed those problems nothing seems wrong with it. It starts right up, perfectly smooth, really quiet engine. It actually weirds me out I'm so used to subarus and old diesels. A quiet engine just doesn't seem right... More tinkering today, the light bar off my last subaru needs to go on. It's kinda bent and dinged up and pretty scorched from the car catching on fire in the crash, but it still works. I also hate running boards, so those are probably going.

I've wanted a dodge ram since i was 13, and last weekend i finally bought one. Its an 08' with 83k miles on it. previously babied by some farmer. My only complaints are that its automatic and painted the color of a store brand C-3P0. The stock chrysler radio kinda sucks too, but at least i can plug my phone into it.

A friend picked one up for super cheap from a woman in a bougie ski town who bought it used for her daughter. It stalled at one point so she freaked out and told the Toyota dealer to spare no expense in restoring it. Like twelve grand in receipts. New suspension, frame, body panels, exhaust, wheels, ECU... Anyway he happily drove it for a few years and then sold it to a mutual friend who loaned it to his visiting cousin who let her foreigner boyfriend (with no license) spike it into a ditch at highway speed while presumably texting and driving.

Seeing the Pacific Ocean appear like that is something else. I toured the PCH by bicycle, and was on a slight descent when I turned and saw the ocean. As you descend, with the water taking up half the background, it feels like you're about to slam into a blue wall. Breathtaking.

That road is perfectly shaped for the M3's gearing and you can romp on it constantly in 2nd and 3rd without really getting too much speed built up/getting dangerous anywhere because it's neverending twists and the Michelin Pilot Super Sports (which I hear have been improved on with the Pilot Sport 4's - if that's somehow possible) love to grip as hard as you can make them, and give perfect feedback through the steering. Coincidentally enough, I was looking around on TV last night and scrolled into the original Fast & the Furious movie on one of the many Showtimes and seconds later - boom: Brian and Dom at Neptune's. Always get the steamed shrimp, never buy fries (they're a waste of shrimp room), and dip the shrimp in tapatio. Like shown here:

It might be cocktail sauce because Brian Earl Spilner is so goddamn white, but the hot sauce dispenser there does put out Tapatio.

Maybe I'm just clumsy, but every time I get in/out of a vehicle with running boards I don't expect them and it catches me off guard. I'm lazy (and sick of working on it), so I'll leave them for a while and see if they grow on me.

Loud cars are fun to be obnoxious with, but I don't want to get a headache on a roadtrip or something from noise. The thing is amazing on the highway, set cruise at 90 and it's quiet and smooth. Spent an hour yesterday not even knowing I was doing 90.

I'm looking for a bit more rumble in my Crown Vic (it's already a bit louder being a P71 without the extra rear silencers), but like you, I don't want to make road trips painful. I'm looking at Magnaflow mufflers. I find them more mellow than Flowmasters, or at least the usual 40-series or whatever.

Maybe look at a delta 50 or 60. They're from flowmaster's truck/suv lineup and still have a nice tone, but aren't quite as loud. They're in the middle of the spectrum whereas the 40 series is their 2nd loudest muffler, right behind the suoer 10. Still fairly easy and cheap to get ahold of as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QEBdiW4LbI0 Granted, this is coming from a guy that dailyed an avalanche with a super 44 (one step above the super 40, one below the 40 series on the loud scale) that dumped in front of the rear axle, so ymmv. Even the 14 hour cruise to texas didn't bother me. The only change I made after putting it on the truck was bumping the radio up 1-2 notches. Edit: And fwiw, a coworker has a single super 10 on his genesis coupe w/ 2.0 turbo and somehow it sounds amazing, doesn't drone and isn't obnoxiously loud. Basically, that car has some black magic voodoo witchcraft going on with that loving muffler. Elmnt80 fucked around with this message at 03:01 on Sep 7, 2017 |

Resonators work well with mufflers if you have the extra room. It really took the edge off my rx8. It only works for the buzz or loud notes but thats the part that gets annoying on long hauls. Id say itll do something similar to what a turbo sounds like. The bass is there but theres no rasp it mutes that out.

My grandfather was throwing out some old cabinets from his house and i snatched them right up and used them for 7 years in my garage. Hah they're actually terrible for actual use. They're tall cabinets, and since I'm short I can't use the top half of them. It was perhaps a good theory, but bad in actual practice. Eventually I will remove them and build a bunch more shelving.
