Pro-tip, if you need supplies for the hurricane, you best get to the stores ASAP. Homedepot is bringing out pallets of plywood and their being emptied as soon as the forklift leaves.

On a lighter note, if any of you have played Automation, I've just launched another new challenge for the game! https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3833227 If you entered my first challenge, hosted here in AI a couple of years ago, you'll recall we all struggled with save issues with Automation; I am happy to report those are things of the very distant past, and it actually works quite well now.

It depends on what the storm actually does. Hes in orlando, so the big concerns there are where it comes ashore and how far inland it travels before hooking north. Somewhere in florida is getting the full meaty donging from irma, what the rest gets depends on where that somewhere is.

I've got family on a small leeward island just south of St. Maartin. They're not home right now, but all bets are off with the condition their house is going to be in. The one benefit is those houses are built out of stone/brick/concrete and weather hurricanes incredibly well... as in, a Cat4 went by a few years back and the house was untouched, but this monster has everyone on edge. The Netherlands government has taken big public works project like burying services (power/telephone) which will be paying off big time I'm sure. Stay safe and gtfo if you can. Your house isn't worth dying for. slidebite fucked around with this message at 05:42 on Sep 6, 2017 |

I'd rather be at home than stuck in my car in a traffic jam, and with all the gas stations out of gas how far are you gonna make it anyway. Every single flight out is booked through sat as well. Best thing to do if you're right in it's path is go to the nearest shelter and hope that doesn't blow down.

I'm an hour north of applebees appetizer. No clue what I'm doing yet since I'm flat broke till thursday, probably expected to work until the last possible moment and yeah. I've got nowhere to flee to that I can afford to even stay more than a night anyways, unless I run all the way to texas. I've got silver spray paint and a machete though.

Even if you can afford it good luck finding a hotel. I've heard horror stories of people riding out the storm in their car during Charley. Was heading for the bay area, tons of people fled to Orlando then it took a hard right and went right over Orlando. The weather was perfect here.

Yeah, thats why I've kinda adopted a wait and see approach. I know enough backroads to maybe get out close to hurricane o clock if it comes in straight. If it winds up strafing all the way up the center of the state uh... Idkmybffjill.

So apparently I now own a 3rd cat, as long as its not FIV + Goes to the vets tomorrow for full check over, viral workup, immunisations etc and her name is either Tully or Talisker. Cant decide. The other two are devastated about having to share their home. Or not. If shes FIV+ we'll adopt her out to a single cat house, its just not worth the risk of giving our two healthy cats Kitty Aids if they get into an argument.

The wife's got an uncle and grandfather in Key West. There were mutterings from the old man of staying and riding it out, but they've talked some sense in to him so the two of them (plus partners and a dog) are rolling out this morning. My parents have a place in PCB that they offered for use so they might be heading there. Uncle's not real thrilled about leaving his house and all his stuff, but the window of opportunity to GTFO is closing rapidly. If they can get out and haul rear end, it's about a 12 hour trip.

Have cousins in Naples and they say there is already NO gas/propane/water available to buy. Have friends who live on a boat in the keys. They sailed it to a mangrove cove, tied it up, rented a car and just hoping there is a boat to come back to.

For real though, boats are slow. By the time a storm has formed and been named you probably couldn't get out of its way even if you knew it's exact path. You'd also be risking riding it out at sea and gently caress that. My old man rode out a named storm on an aircraft carrier and says it was no joke. I don't even want to imagine what a cat 5 is like when you're riding 40' of fiberglass.
