Red Minjo posted:my friend described Black Clover to me as the new Naruto but the main character is like Rock Lee in terms of magic ability i mean if they are only describing things via comparison, yeah those things fit the main character has trained his body in hopes of gaining magic power but is instead given "magic" that manifests as swords able to cut through/nullify magic. it has a generally light tone and is more liberal with gags than i remember stuff like naruto being. the rivalry they set up is also way better executed than naruto/sasuke because the characters are adoptive brothers and neither has sasuke-level angst or trauma. since they were orphans raised by a nun, there's a class struggle angle that is played up with the mc wanting to become mage king so he can flip the current status quo where nobles have all the prestige and power. kind of an interesting side bit to that is he gets stuck in the problem child mage guild which is led by an immigrant who also uses nontraditional magic. like at the most basic level i guess naruto has similar motivations to be hokage, but black clover more specifically acknowledges it as a class issue so i feel it's worth giving some points.
