The alternate chapter 13 that came out has like simple brawler combat with no bullshit and i wished the whole game gave you that option. Also the world and npc animations felt extremely sonic 06y to me so i could never get into anything.

Just beat Metroid AM2R today, my only new metroid since I don't own a 3ds. I gotta say it transcended my already high expectations since I had seen so much praise about it. But the level design is fun and interesting, real tension and emotion emerge from the gameplay, and some of the boss fights are among the best in the franchise. A bit better than Fusion or Zero Mission, on the same tier as Super Metroid, for me personally. I beat it 100% on Hard in 8:11, so it's quite short, and the difficulty balance on hard was spot on. I'd recommend it to anyone waiting for the new official title. But then again I might be the last person to play it who has even the remotest interest.
