God I wish I could give myself just exactly enough brain damage to forget everything that happened in this game and play it again. I've played through a bunch of other rpgs since this and not one of them even comes close to having the kind of believable, adult characters the Witcher does. Entire worlds populated by quirky teenagers and people with gimmicky "talk to me to find out about my homeland and people" stories. Eventually they'll get actual writers to work on games, right?

The same deal seems to be offered to Temeria. Toussaint kinda has a special allowance because they've been Nilfgaardian for aaaages, extremely loyal, has no military, is far inside Nilfgaard's borders, and nobody wants to gently caress up the high-end wine supply and rich person vacation spot. Basically, it's so quaint and cute that everyone in the Imperial Court just goes 'awww let them be'. MikeJF fucked around with this message at 17:04 on Sep 9, 2017 |

Remember that time Nilfgaard pillaged and torched the agriculture and industry of the parts of the North they invaded so they could dominate them economically after the Peace of Cintra? That's how I imagine real conquest works too, just leaving people alone but making sure they pay loadsa tax on their trading.

So I tried out the Polski audio. I can see why people like Polish Geralt. He's a real smooth talker, and he always sounds slightly amused and irritated. I'll still take Doug though, he IS Geralt as far as I'm concerned, the way Steve Blum IS Spike. I also noticed that a lot of the background and minor NPCs sound shockingly similar to their English counterparts, to the point where I am genuinely curious if some of the Polish VAs pulled double duty and did lines in both English and Polski. Either way, the dubbing is excellent.

Well, time to start blood and wine. Also don't get what the deal is with the downgrading on Witcher. I recently hooked it up to my monitor on an Xbox one, and at best it looks like it was set on Medium PC settings.

I hate the end game because it dumps you into Kaer Morhan, which is almost entirely empty. That plus the music really nails the loneliness of the place.

Holy poo poo Toussaint is beautiful. Blood and wine is such a nice change of pace from the war torn chaos of the north. I just completed the Witcher contract of escorting a rich baron taking pictures with a new fangled device, and it was great. You can finish the main quest, but wrap up anything you need to do with any of the main characters, Yen, Triss, Djikstra, etc. before you do. They'll disappear once the main quest is finished.

You can't - if you didn't get the Viper diagrams from her during the actual auction before the bidding starts then you're locked out of getting them for good. The venomous steel sword diagram is only available during the heist itself and the venomous silver sword (no diagram) is only available during Gaunter's final quest. It's a real dick and I missed out on the swords my first time around.

I beat it! and now im diving right into the DLCs. apparently 80 hours of this game isnt enough for me. I got the ending where ciri becomes a witcher and emyhr is dead, djikstra is king of the north. that was so good, and i cant believe it gets better apparently with the DLCs.

Pretty much. Just make sure to sell everything to the right vendors. Also if you've been looting poo poo all game you probably have a ton of crafting/alchemy mats that you really don't need. I just sort by price and sell everything down to like 10 of each.

Only upgrade the runewright to the second tier, that gets you all the good stuff. The third tier is pretty underwhelming. Re: Avallach, it almost feels like some cut content with the unique environments you world-hop to, hard to imagine they would have spent that much effort on content you only spend a few minutes in. I wouldn't have minded more time with Ge'els on the Wild Hunt homeworld, that might have built up the Hunt as baddies better.

I don't mind the Hunt as 'force of nature' uncharacterised bad dudes, the Real Bad Guys in the Witcher have always been lovely people and there are still plenty to pick from in TW3. I'm sure the fact that you now just plunge straight into HoS and B&W softens it too, having such well-drawn antagonists.

I just finished this for the first time (Main story, not DLC) because I didn't have a computer that could play it til recently. God drat, what a good loving game. Gonna ruin RPGs for me for a while, I think - I have Mass Effect: Andromeda on my plate as well and welp there goes that. It's kinda liberating to finish the main story, tbh. Now I feel like I can go off and do all the treasure hunts and witcher gear diagrams without the Hunt breathing down my neck.

I actually feel like they basically accomplished characterizing the Wild Hunt well enough with the little content there is - they are just the mirror image of our world's corrupt, power hungry people like Radovid or Emhyr, just with a different flavor. Knowing that much about them gives you enough to understand them. There is ultimately nothing special about them, and I think that's the point. You even defeat them thanks to political intrigue rather than any magical mumbo jambo.

Avalerion posted:The only thing they dropped the ball on is the white frost, I'd say. Yeah I enjoyed the overall experience but never really understood the connection between the white frost and the wild hunt. So the hunt are weirdo elves from the same world as the sages and they're raiding worlds to find something better to move to before the white frost takes over their homeland? But the hounds seem to be powered by it/they've all got the cold thing going on. On top of that, I never did really figure out why Ciri/Avallach decided to face the white frost while I was simultaneously fighting off the Hunt. I mean I can accept lore-wise that Ciri wouldn't be able to fight the frost until she finally got the wild hunt off her trail, but like, did it really need to happen at literally the exact same time I was fighting Eredin? Also what was up with the mini-conjunction of spheres going on there? Was that a consequence of the Hunt coming through, some sunstone thing or whatever? Was it a consequence of whatever unexplained poo poo Ciri was doing to fight the frost, or was it a prerequisite for the conditions for her to be right to actually fight it? Just kinda abruptly jumped from battling the Hunt to a literal apocalypse for unexplained reasons. Finished Hearts of Stone yesterday too, onto Blood and Wine. Gaunter O'Dimm is a such a good loving character. A little disappointed that I didn't get to face him, but I just stood by while he took Olgierd's soul instead of getting in the way because that guy was a fucker. Kinda surprised he didn't pull any fine print on me and just let me go after that. Read some spoilers and I guess I kinda missed a dope encounter if I decided to stand up against him with Olgierd, but I figured it was his time.
