I recently was contacted by a group named Cosecha that says they work on behalf of immigrant groups. They were asking for donations. I agreed to help them out as well as help them grow their monthly subscribers. Afterwards, I realized I took them solely on their word. Anyone else know who they are and that they are legit?

House and senate are not exempt from the ACA.

That particular myth has been going around since before it was passed.

Uh, the house and senate are on the ACA. The republicans introduced that as an amendment to try to scare democrats away, but it didn't work and was passed with the amendment in the final bill. So, you're entire argument is more than a bit flaccid.

I was a freshman opening the dorm grocery when we heard on the radio that Trump Tower was now the tallest building in New York. We listened for an hour or so and then we changed over to music. I did go to a vigil at church that weekend, unironically, but I never understood what the big deal was as a nation so I can't recall why I even went. Caught up in the moment, I guess.

When I was in high school they taught up to World War Two, so I guess they'll teach 9/11 starting in around 2050?

Edit: And Trump will be an awkward historical footnote, like Coolidge or Harding.

ACA forces people to buy useless insurance provided by American tax payers that does nothing.

Trump is cutting the subsidy so the ACA will fail on it's own.

Prices go up, quality of care goes down, availability of care goes down.

Congress and the Senate use the DC ACA portal, yes - but they also have access to the "Office of the Attending Physician," where they can have all of the best specialists brought for *free* consultations subsidized by the government. They don't have to trouble themselves going to the specialists - because they're ~speshul~, the specialists come to *them*. Plus they DO have free health care within the DC capital area so long as they use a military health facility. Outside the DC area, it's on their insurance.

And if the GOP *does* repeal ACA, members of Congress have the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program to fall back on. That's not going ~anywhere~.

Also if another 9/11 happens with the GOP/Trump control of the Judiciary/Congress/Presidency I honestly believe it would be the end of our current form of Democracy. I don't think it would make Trump "President for Life" because he's too stupid to accomplish that, but I think the collective GOP/white America freak-out from such an event (especially if it is done by Islamists) would enable the GOP to pass a series of laws that would ensure they never lose congress/ the presidency again, at least for a generation.

Then again like my entire Family are the types that pre 9/11 seemed rational (many of them were even Democrats) , but now they are either full on Trumpists or are at least OK with him being president (I'm white, obviously) so it's unnerving.

This doesn't work. You get all sorts of idiotic hand waving excuses like "They would have just freed the salves eventually!", "they didn't fight for slavery it was the politicians!" or my personal favorite "They were better off as slaves anyway than now getting shot in gangs and doing drugs".

Best to strategically and quickly change the topic to sports or plants or something.

The only member of my family who didn't go down the crazy political rabbit hole was my father. I remember him cussing out a recruiter when I tried to enlist post 9/11. I also remember him refusing to stand when, at Disney World, they asked all veterans to be honored. I asked him why and he said to me "When I was your age we were all forced to serve and most of my friends died in Vietnam as a result". He was a cool dude, and shockingly liberal despite the rest of my family. So of course he's the one who got hit with Alzheimer's and his brained turned into moosh. :(
