Diablo up to max level is just learning how to play the game. At max level you stop grinding levels and start looking for good loot. That's where things open up and actually get fun, instead of just leading you around by the nose saying "do this, do that". Destiny is exactly the same. The narrative where it tells you what to do is... pretty bad. WAY worse than Halo. Do not expect a Halo storyline. Buuuuut it has RPG elements which make the game infinitely more replayable than Halo. This isn't like Halo where you beat the campaign and then go "uhhh so pvp or do co-op again?". You will never have all of the loot in the game, even if you poopsock 24/7. You always have new toys to go try to collect.

But for some games, where levels act as a content gate and the game dramatically changes style after max level, I can totally understand it. Especially if you're late to the game and your friends are already max level and you can't participate with them until you are as well. But poopsocking on day1 to be the first to max level is dumb, yeah.

This game checks so many of my boxes I think I may need to preemptively start seeing a marriage councilor. I won't be joining a goon clan or squad or corp or blob or whatever metric of measurement they're using for this game because my friends group is more insular than those tribes that you see shooting arrows at helicopters on YouTube every now and again. I would like to play with m'goonbros though, so maybe add me on bnet? I'll join the discord and pester people when the game comes out as well.

It's borderlands without a lot of the problems that plagued the series (bad enemy scaling, very bad loot tables, lots of boring/annoying dialogue, etc) with a lot of those simply being taken care of by shrinking the distance between "level 1 nobody" and "levelcapped poopsocker rolling a bunch of exotics." A smaller rainbow of possible weapons means it's more enjoyable to get exotics (the rarest class of loot) but with the smaller overall table you aren't shooting dorks for a year looking for that 0.0015% rate gun that looks a lot like that other gun you got but this time it adds purple. The exotics are visually distinctive, often having their own polygon models, particle effects, sounds, etc. They have a hell of a lot more presence when you get them. The story is not nearly as long as BL, but it isn't anything special. You beat the big bad, there's no intrigue or plot twists, you just shoot the bad guys until you get to the big bad, and then you shoot that guy and win. Dialogue isn't as dense as BL, and there are some points where it really shines (Zavala - voiced by Lance Reddick aka Broyles from Fringe/Sylens in HZD, lots of other roles I can't recall atm - saying "Ahh, who among us does not love infrastructure" is delivered hilariously on point) but you aren't getting proper memorable characters like Handsome Jack. Basically they did a lot of good improvements on fit and finish for the ol' shoot and loot FPS-RPG archetype. If there were real, functional differences between you and the likes of Borderlands or The Division then this may not fully be for you since it's a lot of the same cooperative mission-style shooter gameplay with incremental loot ladders interspersed with big shiny drops.

Really bad news: You will be able to put your K/D in your emblem. For some people this is the equivalent to have the porn name "Mr 11 inches". You are going to meet people that the first thing you know is their K/D is 2.4 I just can't put into words how bad is this. The boasting, the boasting is sending comicron particles back in time, is like a Big Bang in the future altering events in the past. That bad.

Still, you may as well form a clan with your friends even if it's kept private. You get loot just by accumulating points doing any activity in the game. This can come in handy when you need help getting over a power level threshold.
