I finished From Hell. It was really good, pretty loving transcendent actually, but then at the end Jack the Ripper turned into Dr Manhattan and now I don't know how to feel. I'm pretty sure it's awesome.

Its weird that while capitalism undoubtdly has a much more damaging effect on the environment (loving up our planet for the far future too), but its kind of sad seeing communism do the same albeit more localized (like the Aral Sea drying up and Mao promoting traditional Chinese Medicine which is going to lead to the extinction of many animals and the destruction of rare fossils). Though primitism isn't the way to go since its loving stupid.

vengeful southeast asian ghost lady status report: I managed to get ahold of Kuchisake-onna Returns (2012), but have accidentally discovered that there are at the very least two hardcore porn slit-mouthed woman movies. In fact, the website I'm downloading Kuchisake-onna Returns from is falsely advertising that it's a download for one of those hardcore videos. I have not seen videos, but I have seen stills. It's quite a loving thing. Updated watchlist: - The Heart of an Indian (1912) - The Case for Christ (2007) - Kuchisake-onna Returns (2012)

Georgie from "It" was at the Phoenix Alamo Drafthouse last week, and while he was there, he filmed this "Don't Talk" PSA. Also, I am ashamed of myself for not being on top of this, otherwise I would have gone and told him how fuckin' rad he was in the movie. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATr6HomDNQc

I liked It, but I mainly felt like it was missing that childish logic that lead to the silver bullets and battery acid, that was one of my favorite parts of the story, how when you're a kid these everyday items become so important that they take on God-killer level status. The Molly Ringwald joke and "Now I gotta kill this fuckin clown " got huge reactions, which made me happy.

This article has a bit more of an explanation of why she won. https://www.theguardian.com/film/2017/sep/13/rebel-wilson-defamation-payout-is-a-game-changer-for-gossip-magazines quote:Pearson, an expert in media law, said Australia didn’t have the toughest defamation laws but they are closer to the British system than the American one and celebrities could take advantage of that. quote:“Clearly it sends a signal that there are consequences for telling stories you can’t prove to be true and of course for a long time the supermarket end of the market magazines have been willing to tell the most entertaining story rather then the most truthful,” Burrowes said. The key thing is, if the stories could be proven true they would have had a defence, but the rumours weren't actually "substantially true" as the jury decided, and the outlet hadn't done their due diligence in verifying it. It's an interesting story, I think. Won't have much of an effect on American media, of course, but I think we will see some in Australia.

I read an article about it. I don't like the guy or condone what he did, but as a general thing, if someone is trying to better them self, is it not fine to give them another chance? I think a year is too soon, but If someone reaaaaaaally tries to step up and fix it, and do whatever they can to make it right, i feel a second chance is perhaps okay. (Not for every case though, and I don't want to see his writing ever again)

I remember ten years ago a friend of mine was convinced they were going to jack up the price of DVDs to encourage people to buy Blu-ray. I don't know where he got that idea, but I can walk into my local record store today and they have buckets and buckets of DVDs for a dollar.

God, think about that. Ten years ago people were talking about DVD's going away. What made VHS collectible was incredible box art, but the value of DVD's to me is and always has been commentary tracks. As long as they keep that up, I'll grab the occasional DVD still.

This is another good point: a lot of times, some rando distribution group will put out foreign films, and lots of DTV stuff still comes out. IIRC I discovered Lake Mungo via 8 Films To Make You Scream or whatever that thing is called, where it's just a set of a few indie horror films in a pack.
