We don't know at this point - they originally talked about adding it to everything, but walked back on that. At this point I'd guess it gets added to a bunch of themes but not to the explicit jack themes like Heavy Metal and Creator's Might.

This is true, but I have to think that they're at least thinking seriously about putting it in. Certainly more than the theme lists that have been tested without the merc/minion addition. But I also get that your ear is way closer to the ground than me w/r/t what PP is trying to do, so I'd put odds on you being more right than me on this one.

I rather like them. If I'm allowed to make a suggestion on how you could make them better with minimal effort, try a matte finish. Gloss just almost always doesn't look as good and doesn't have the final effect that people are trying to go for. Also maybe try to create a higher amount of contrast in the skin tone between the high point and low points, but that's a lot of work and probably isn't as close to talent in a can as a spray of Dullcote is.

Thank you. I worked out something with medium matte, which made them a lot less glossy. I tend to lean a bit too much toward the "Nuln oil" end of the NO vs Agrax Earthshade debate.
On another subject, how much of a list point count/unit count do you guys devote to tarpit duty? I usually seems to misuse/not use those enough.

Played my first game with NewKraye yesterday. He's awesome. I brought three Centurions, an Ironclad and a couple lights against Severius1 with 3 Heavies and the Blessing. Only killed one heavy on the alpha due to his defensive buffs, but managed to win 5-0 on Scenario. Might add a Stormclad next time.

Went 1/2 this weekend at a tourney with pzerkova. We didn't have to bring another list so I didn't!

WGK theme
Zerkova
Dog
Destroyer x2
Jug
Malakov
Marauder
Wgrc (min)
Rockets X3
Joe
Wgi (max)
Rockets X3
Marksman
Scouts

First one was against zaal2 immortal spam, lost a dog and 3 winterguard. He went second and feated early, so while I couldn't do anything to him I still was able to get most of his dudes in my feat, meaning he couldn't do much to me after either. Pretty much cleared the table after - even with vengeance he had a hard time getting in, and I was very skillful in some tough rolls when he did. He gave up after trying to spell assassinate by putting some grunts near zerkova, but got watcher'd. I dont know why but he then tried to just kill the jug and kept failing to crack arm. Scenario was the two big circle zones.

Second game was against pstrakhov in jaws with big b + forge seers, jacks and double kayazy. I got my poo poo shoved in on both flanks, my inf couldn't really deal effectively with everything and terrain was a nuisance. Got close at the end - dude was like a minute left on clock, and I tried to assassinate strakhov, but jug flubbed a boosted attack roll. Big b got the charge and sealed the deal within the minute. Scenario was two big circle zones + the rectangle in the middle.

Last was vlad2, conquest + wgrc + shocks + double kayazy + widow package + Saxon.
I deployed first and he counter deployed like a boss, I was screwed from the getgo. Terrain meant my front was long, and the scenario was the circle in the middle + two rectangles on a diagonal. Wgi ate poo poo, conquest crit dev'd my marauder into malakov, and wind blast meant my cloud wall was pretty useless. He got overconfident at the end and charged my jug with vlad, which let zerkova move up and cast frost hammer, which actually crit'd. Kept plinking for 1 or 2 with that, then the last good destroyer aimed and shot, needing a boosted 10 to kill... and rolled nine. Lol.

Gonna try her in legion of steel next. On all of the games, armorspam was a HUGE problem for me, and I don't really feel like buying more rockets. Or maybe I just need to not let malakov get killed before the marauder does anything useful. Two destroyers might also be overkill. They did work, but not enough imo to justify two of them and not just one and a second jug or devastator or something. Also maybe focusing on playing scenario would have been helpful in the last two games but whatever. Super fun!

I gotta say, I wasn't huge on Minicrate because the initial round of images were the same old "oh look, a pinup-esque thing" as they've been doing for their Gencon offerings for the past several years, but the Geist and Ashlynn previews actually look pretty cool. I probably won't sign up for the initial six-month round, but will probably look at Ashlynn and to a lesser extent the Geist individually.

Hopefully it's a sign they'll go more creative than pinups. Or at least be open to going Tom of Finland pinup in addition :evilbuddy:

That sounds like a good tip and actually kicked off quite the discussion in my local group. Sad thing is that I've only got one Hammersmith, and he's also my magnetized Centurion, so I'll have to proxy. I'm thinking something along the lines of two Centurions, 4 Hammersmiths, Charger and Minuteman as my baseline.

I was thinking something like this.

Kraye - WJ: +28
- Squire - PC: 0
- Centurion - PC: 17 (Battlegroup Points Used: 17)
- Hammersmith - PC: 12 (Battlegroup Points Used: 11)
- Hammersmith - PC: 12
- Hammersmith - PC: 12
- Avenger - PC: 17
- Firefly - PC: 8
- Firefly - PC: 8

Journeyman Warcaster - PC: 0
- Hunter - PC: 10
Captain Arlan Strangewayes - PC: 0

Trencher Combat Engineers - Leader & 2 Grunts: 5

The Fireflies are to give him some infantry clearance. They also have a 14" melee threat before the Feat so they can charge in to trigger it on annoying Stealth models.

The avenger just seems really good. Kraye's feat only requires a hit(not a direct hit) so the 4" template will trigger both flare and beacon on everything under it. You can even run a Jack up and shoot it in the back, catching the enemy in the template too, you don't even knock your own Jack down because Quake only triggers on a direct hit on enemy models.

Combat Engineers seem like a pretty solid unit, they can control infantry zones and sit there dug in until you need them. If an enemy moves a Jack up within 6" of them, sabotage is pretty great providing damage but also Grievous Wounds that even works on Colossals.

Hammersmiths are amazing when you can trample+repo 12" and have a 13" threat on Feat turn, impact attacks and boosted Charge attacks. Only the Stormclad equals their damage output if you land both their initials. Arm 19 makes them fairly durable too.

Edit: on Minutemen with Kraye. I'm not sold on them. Extended Control will be really good for them but the only thing I like that Kraye gives them is pathfinder.

I loved them in Kraye in Mk2 where Full Tilt doubled their movement speed and the different Cav rules let them pull all kinds of shenanigans. You could advance 12", jump 5", throw their caster towards your lines and Cav move 5" to flak field some infantry but most of that is gone with Mk3 and his new upcoming rules.

The issue is that you can't extend their movement outside of a charge which means forfeiting their jump rule. Minutemen really want a threat extension like Locomotion, Energiser or even Escort because they can move up further and jump behind the enemy to get back strike bonuses. Otherwise you have to boost to hit instead of damage in a lot of occasions because they can almost never do both.

They also are a real focus drain because now more than ever, Kraye wants his focus for his spells and to fuel his heavies, I find it hard to even spare a single focus for Chargers with the new version. That's why I think Hunters and Fireflies are the best jacks for him. The Hunter rarely needs to boost to hit, and the Firefly only needs to boost to hit for infantry to ensure you get the Generator leaps.

One of the guys I play has been trying out Kraye w/ centurions, stormclads, and grenadiers in a similar list. It's pretty horrific to have SPD 4 heavies move 15" as a normal turn. Between that and the stand up spell, it's one of the few jack based armies my Ossyan Shadows list isn't just shooting off the table. Even on feat turn I can take more than 3 heavies off reliably, and that's just not enough when you're playing against 4-5 fast heavies plus support shooting.

Kraye maxes Spd 4 heavies at a 12" move. Spd4 + Trample 3" + reposition 5"

Biggest threat he brings with Horsepower and feat on a Spd 4 heavy is the Centurion with 4" Spd + 3" Charge + 3 inch Horsepower + 2" Beacon +2" melee range. You do get a reposition after all that but it's not increasing threat.

The only way to go higher is to break theme and bring Lanyssa for Hunters Mark and get an extra 2"(although it looks like you'll be able to bring her in the upcoming change to Sons of the Tempest.)

Sorry, I was thinking 14" on his charge turn. And there's also lots of pathfinder on jacks, so terrain is in his advantage most of the time. 14" charges means that even long range shooting like harpies aren't able to easily keep out of threat at max range unless they're under Helynna doing a rhythm of war move. You are out charging most gun ranges pretty trivially, which starts getting scary for most people.

Yeah, that's fair and I think he plays fairly strong into guns(he always has though) due to pathfinder, reposition and melee threat.

His main weaknesses are high arm and dude spam though. He tends to take high quality but low volume amounts of attacks so he'll never get through a ton of infantry.

Likewise with high arm, he has no damage buffs so something like Khador Jack spam or a Wold Wrath with Roots of the Earth on it are terrifying to him because he needs every Jack to stay alive and losing even one early on means he's at a major disadvantage. Once his battlegroup is bogged down in combat he's at his most vulnerable. The Wold Wrath for example needs him to commit his whole battlegroup with feat and no Horsepower spell to have about a 60% chance of killing it. That leaves them all bunched up and super vulnerable. It also means the Wold Wrath can play further up the table because I need it within 11" of my whole battlegroup to have a chance to kill it.

It's why I really like him though, he has to be used with a certain amount of finesse, just getting everything way up the table is quite often a recipe for disaster because while he can strike where he wants, he can't take a proper counter punch. Once people play into him more I think they'll find out that while he can have amazing threat ranges, he is also very weak in other areas.

Say that to Skorne players. I'm still convinced that Acolytes of Pain is a better beast theme than Imperial Warhost. Rage/Primal as an animus is a better benefit than free solos/hyperaggressive, and you get more units and solos so that you can actually deal with scenarios.
