Seems like something where the bonus to let the GTS train straight to sergeant would be helpful. Train up a squad specifically for those missions, whenever someone gets promoted you can train up a replacement.

I got a prophet with bladestorm. Despite joining my squad late that prophet became my playthrough's first major. At one point in the blacksite mission she wiped a whole ADVENT re-enforcement wave because I parked her on the red smoke and one of the new troops was a purifier. So between that explosion and her attacks she wiped the pod. Bad. rear end.

I've got a mission to "download psionic training from exposed access point" but there doesn't seem to be a prompt at the computer...any ideas? There's a red lock that randomly pops up when I move the cursor on it, but no green square to initiate the download.

For sure, the problem is just pinning him down long enough to unload like that though.

The single best tactic I use for the Hunter is bring a Templar with Invert. It's not available until they're a Captain, but once you have it you get a 100% chance (for 1 AP and 1 Focus) to swap places with your target. All of a sudden the Hunter goes from being on top of a tall building with full cover to standing in the middle of your mosh pit of death. For extra comedy you can even then Volt or Amplify with your Templar if you've got the Focus for it.

I'd be shocked if I could even field a squad for LoPro right now. That said if you buy six rookies and kit them out with end-game gear you can probably do it, however ugly. Depends if your assets in that continent are worth ~$150.

6 sergeants could probably beat an endgame map after a ton of trouble, but actually completing the objective in time is the issue. Even if I was willing to sacrifice a bunch of sergeants it wouldn't matter if they can't complete the objective in time. Like in that case, how was i gonna protect the relay? That requires crossing the map quickly and dealing with the pods adjacent to it. Endgame relay missions are actually one of the hardest ops because the relay HP doesn't scale relative to the damage output of endgame enemies. If the sectopod on the map spawned near the relay I'd be screwed from turn 1.

This just happened again except this time the reaper killed a sectopod, a purifier, a trooper and a shieldbearer. I had hit them with a blaster bomb first so they were injured, but, uhh... wow. Even without the bugs I nominate Banish as the single most OP ability in the game currently, with exmags and a repeater it's just a straight up delete button for whatever you want.

I have actual skeletons in my closet
Most of the chosen seem to stay in their spawn area and never move until I sight them. It makes it easy to surround and pin them down. Is that happening in other people's games? The hunter sits in his corner, occasionally doing tracking shot. Once I sight him, he does grapple and shoot. But he isn't that mobile because my squads have him surrounded. I rarely get chosen that move. Maybe its a difficulty thing. I've seen him swing out and shoot a few times, looks cool. But he rarely does more than standard daze stuff.

The warlock and assassin tend to be more active.

The Assassin is the only chosen that actively pursues you from the start. The Warlock and Hunter are both coded to hang back and pester you with with abilities that span the entire map. The Warlock summons spectral zombies to bog you down while the Hunter will use tracking shot if he can get unobstructed sight on a unit. Once you actually make visual contact with them, they stop using those abilities and actually engage you in proper combat.

They do wander around a bit but those two usually won't fight you until the end of a mission.

I managed it just fine with that setup, fwiw, and it wasn't especially difficult. (Everyone was shaken at the end, and I got a few scratches, but there was never any point at which I felt like "oh crap, I might actually lose this").

So last I played, I was a little frustrated that the third difficulty was too easy and the hardest difficulty was pretty much impossible. Has the expansion changed the difficulties any? Is the third difficulty level any different, or is it mostly unchanged?

The difficulties haven't changed so much. I would recommend doing the expac on C/I, with integrated DLC option if you've played with them already.

L/I has an adjusted difficulty curve where Gatecrasher is a little easier than before but the first retaliation mission at the end of the first month is now a massive roadblock. Basically if you make it through L/I's first month without too many losses I feel the game is pretty unloseable. I never did L/I on vanilla but I also hated the poo poo out of doing gatecrasher, at least in wotc it's more bearable. If L/I still doesn't sound fun after finishing C/I you could also just enable the Grim Horizon second wave option, which should be closer to an intermediate difficulty.

I had a tower that gave everyone in my squad all their action points back that turn as the easier reward. That was a prety fun one-off. I seem to be doing loads of hacking though. Even as a near guaranteed two turn stun I find haywire useful. Although I only just got those bluescreen rounds, so possibly not so effective now.

Last night, I bonded a Sharpshooter and Grenadier, both of them rolled Phantom, so I had the Sneaky Buddies. First mission out with the Sneaky Buddies, and the Warlock kills the other three. He then proceeds to mind control my Grenadier, and summon two ADVENT troopers. Sharpshooter manages to take out both troopers with his pistol, and gets into position to murder the Warlock. Then the Warlock mind controlled my sharpshooter, and ended the mission :romo:

But for some reason the mods that add more color choices don't seem to do anything. The "one million colors" mod does work but only for like guns? Is that normal? The "more skin colors", "more hair colors" etc aren't doing anything at all. I remember them working in the base game, and comments say they work for WOTC, but I'm getting nothing. I've unsubbed and resubbed a few times now. Anyone successfully using these?

Playing without mods, how do you see your squad member's stats during a mission? Like if you want to check who has the highest hacking score?

And if the answer is, inexplicably, that you can't... what mod do I need?

Perfect, thanks. Some off this UI stuff seems a little baffling given how much attention to detail there is elsewhere in the game. In general the tools for sorting/filtering/managing your squad are terrible... and by "tools" I mean a list you can sort, that immediately reverts to being unsorted when you take your eyes off it for a second.

I know you're trying to keep light on mods, but:

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1128263618 This one lets you see everyone's stats in the armory without clicking on them

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1124175584 This one color codes bonds so they're easier to sort through

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1122974240 And this one is a better squad select screen that displays stats and makes it a little easier to mess with loadouts. Read the warnings on this, there's some known issues, but they're easy to avoid triggering.
