With the Little deal, the Jets now pay their top two centers a combined $11.5 mil. Compare that to the Oilers paying a combined $21 mil. Or compare it to the Chicago Blackhawks who are paying $10.5 mil to Jonathan Toews. Scheifele's deal has to be one of the best in the league.

I like Johansson as much as the next guy but "elite" is not a word I'd use to describe him. Still hate that he had to go because Orpik is still on the roster (and because they gave Oshie his insane contract) but at least they managed to lock up Kuznetsov and Orlov long term. It's heresy to mention it but if Ovechkin has another down year I really wouldn't be against shopping him around the league. He's provided really good value for most of his contract but he's getting up there in age and $9.5M is a lot to pay for a declining winger, even if he is still good.

The rational part of my brain agrees with you, but I don't think I'd be able to cope with it. But then, I am one of those Caps fans who started following the team in 2005. I have a hard time seeing Leonsis letting that happen either from a business perspective. Not without another face of the franchise in the pipeline. I love Kuzy and Holtby, but I don't think either is that guy.

ya Ovechkin is absolutely central to the Caps identity. If Ovechkin were traded today it's hard to imagine who else could even be the face of that franchise. Maybe Oshie? He's probably one of the more popular Caps players despite being a newcomer, relatively.

AV told Miller he'd start the season at center. Will be interesting to see how that goes Also says that he "expects Skjei to compete for a top 4 spot on D" lmao edit: this is interesting though https://twitter.com/drosennhl/statu...23post135763521 Kind of doubt that he'll not make the starting roster but at least the idea is intriguing. I get that he's the face of the franchise and Leonsis probably wouldn't sign off on it, but at some point the team needs to win a Cup or at least get to the third round. It's not Ovie's fault that they haven't done so yet, but if 2016-17 (or worse) is the new normal for him then I think his contract really does start becoming a hindrance on the team building a Cup winning team. Regular season excitement is nice but I think most fans are at the point where they literally don't care about anything but the playoffs. It's a pure cap hit vs. production argument from me. I don't really believe in "Ovie is a choker and not a leader" horseshit. I'm just not sure if he's close to a $9.5M player any more, especially on a capped out team. Like I said maybe last year was just a down year but eventually age is going to catch up with him. JoelJoel posted:Send ovi to the pens to win a cup or two. I'd be down with this. grack posted:Backstrom or Holtby would be the obvious choices Backstrom is one of my favorite humans and one of the most underrated players out there, but I don't think that's a role he's really built for. Holtby perhaps moreso, but how often does a goalie successfully step into that position? e: ^^ But what do they do with that money that both replaces his production and puts them over the top? I'm trying to remember a blockbuster FA deal that has had that effect in recent memory. Chad Sexington fucked around with this message at 20:47 on Sep 14, 2017 |

We all know Ovi is going to the Rangers when he's like 38 and he'll have one decent year and then a few lovely ones where he makes 10 million a year anyways.* *may or may not apply to Malkin as well

Adidas says the new jerseys will be available next Friday for $180 blank and $225 numbered. Makes you wonder what corners they cut to knock the price down like $100 from the Reebok "retail authentics", and if they just put a fight strap on a replica.
