Did anyone upgrade with ATT Next last year? I enrolled when I bought my 6S, but on apple.com the only option is to pay 24 monthly installments that add up to the full price of the phone, rather than the lower payments where you send it in after 12 or 24 months. If I want to continue with ATT Next, I suppose I have to upgrade using ATT's front end rather than through the Apple Store app?

Josh Lyman posted:Apple can't do anything with or about Next. You need to preorder through ATT. The Apple Store (app or in store) can absolutely process you into AT&T Next, I've done it in the past. AT&T does some reshuffling of Next plans every year, I hope they didn't get rid of the Next Every Year program because thats what I'm on and want to get an iPhone X with.

APPUHL RIPZ US OFF AGAIN https://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2017/9/14/16307588/iphone-8-plus-battery-size-compared-iphone-7 Evidently Apple's confident iOS 11 and the new iPhone 8 hardware will sip less energy, because the iPhone 8 battery has 7% less capacity than the 7's.

Well duh. Everyone knows Apple puts an enormous markup on everything they sell. But everyone also knows Apple sells something you can actually use, is built with quality, will get support for years, and in a complete reversal for every other tech device in history, retains enough value that a secondhand market is actually viable.

Here's a question. I've not gotten a Plus before but am thinking about upgrading to the 8 Plus. If I end up deciding I'm not a fan after some extended use (rather than in-store), would Apple already be accepting those as tradeins for the X, or is there generally a delay before they do?Minidust posted:Were they expecting two phones though? I feel like the most obvious way to handle that scenario is just "make the 2017 phone really good." With all the screen shortage rumors floating around, it's entirely possible that was the plan, but they had to come out with another phone they knew they could produce in large quantities to cover for the extra two months of time they needed to prevent the launch from flopping. You'll end up losing at least $300 from the 8+ purchase price to trade it in, even in 2 months. You can buy the 8+ and try it... if you don't like it you have 14 days to return/exchange for a regular 8.

I can live with the Plus for a year then do the XS, I guess. I was gung-ho about the X until it became clear there wasn't a huge difference between it and the 8 compared to the price/hassle of getting it.

The OLED is super nice, but I don't mind about camera features at all other than "it takes nice pictures", which both of them cover, and I'm ambivalent about FaceID. I'm not sure I want to spend another month and a half plus however many extra shipping months I get stuck with on an aging 6 to get the OLED. I want to jump on the new thing as much as the next person but I feel like if I stick to my 3 year cycle on the X, rather than doing a stopgap and getting the XS next year, I'll regret it. More than anything I just wish they'd provided FaceID as an alternative to the fingerprint rather than just doing the typical Apple thing of "Nah we know what we're doing" and removing the old thing. If they're right, they're right, but there's enough weird question marks around it that it doesn't seem unreasonable to shy away from dropping a grand on it.

The original iPhone was $599 on contract. Unsubsidized iPhones cost $400 more, so you're actually getting the iPhone X for the same price, and that's without even accounting for inflation.
