How many games do you like having on hand at any given time? I recommend at least 16gb that was enough until I found a good deal on a 64gb card.
Or find one that's new in box so you can just hack it and use whatever size microsd you want.

The PS4 Thread is the cool place to hang out. You can find most of the cool people there. In The PS4 Thread you can just chill and do whatever and totally relax. "Take it easy" is The PS4 Thread motto, for example, that's how laid back it is there. Show up if you want to have a good time. Another good reason to show up is if you want to hang out with friends.

I'm fairly interested in a vita since I've been getting free games with PS+. Is it expensive to buy storage for it? Does it need A LOT of storage for a bunch of games? I still have my old rear end PSP2000 working but unless I can play something else, I rather play newer stuff.

From what I've seen, the new vita has LCD screen but microUSB and some other improvements. What is the real deal between old and new models?

The storage is expensive, yeah. There's a pretty lovely backup solution for PC so you can store games there without having to re-download and poo poo. I just said YOLO though and got a 64gb card so I wouldn't have to think about it. I don't use my vita often but it is nice for trips.

As already mentioned the Vita 1 has the OLED screen. It has a proprietary charging cable which is annoying. I got a dongle on amazon so I can usb charge it with any plug. So those should be the two deciding factors. Since the OLED screen can be sought after I am curious as to whether or not the vita 2000 is cheaper than the OLED iteration.

Yeah, savings getting a low GB card is not worth the frustration. I'd say 16 gb min, 32 ideal, 64 if :homebrew:

Wait, is there a microsd adapter like the one I use on my PSP? Last time I checked (like two months ago or so) there was none.

I think if you're on a certain vita firmware you can now soft mod it and use any micro sd card with the adapter but I have no idea on the details, it's relatively new

usually there's some sort of soft mod hack to be able to downgrade firmware, so yeah. I already have a 64gb card so I cannot be bothered, but looks like a good option.

There's also other reasons. Some PSP games didn't make it to the vita so with the soft mod you can play poo poo like Crisis Core is this :filez: idk

It is only files if you give detailed guides on how and where to get them. Saying 'I wanted to play a game that SONY did not make available on a doomed platform that needed games I would have bought so I resorted to other means and played them it was cool and good" is OK.

e: the Vita 2k has 1GB of onboard storage you can't use when you have a proper memory card in it, and isn't worth thinking about like at all.

I used to own a Vita 2000: The LCD is quite good, no reason not to get one. It's also a bit sleeker than the og-Vita and MicroUSB makes charging very convenient.

I think Crisis Core is still my favorite FF game.

The difference between the OLED and the LCD screens are only really visible when you have them side by side. Some people are also really put off by the look of a dark OLED screen, your best bet is to go with whichever is cheaper though!

FFVII still holds up, maybe not the super-deformed models but as a whole it's remarkably coherent even 20 years later. The battle character models look...good even, and the backdrops are dreamy.

I read this article a bit ago, umm, [scouring the internet...]

This one: The Afterimage of Final Fantasy VII, it does a pretty good job at exploring why FF7 ended up being such a unique and approachable gaming touchstone, a celebration of both old and experimental development techniques at the time, and how so many of the more personal and idiosyncratic qualities in games have been lost since then in the pursuit of contemporary self-seriousness.

The biggest issue for me though (despite the recent example of FFXV's voice acting being pretty drat good) is that there was a "Fill In The Blank" quality to the series before the characters were voice-acted, an imaginative humility that made the player concentrate on a characters' consistencies in the written dialogue and ignore their inconsistencies, sort of the way the Bloodsouls series gives you just enough info about the world to fill in the blanks and make it all cohere. I imagine that my biggest hurdle to enjoying REMAKE fully will be the attempt to voice-act too many interactions in the game.

Persona and its ilk sort of take an end-around this issue by having certain voice-acted character trademark expressions integrated with written dialogue, but who knows if that would work with FF, might end up feeling artificial because FF7's anime influences are more restricted.

Anyways, FF7 is great.

Yeah, considering how popular 80s revivalism and synth music in general has become within the broader culture of pop...I think it'd be a huge mistake on Square's part for all the FF7:R music to end up just being epic orchestral remixes of the original tunes. Frankly I can't really stand that trend, it reeks of a spurious desire to be PERCEIVED by others as transcending immaturity towards sophistication.

But, judging by the relative popularity of awful videogame symphonic tours...we're probably getting nothing but epic orchestral remixes going forward.

I always forget about the Remote Play Mac/PC app, that's maybe an even better solution because it lets you use a DS4 so the controls aren't constrained

Just have to buy the official Sony bluetooth receiver to use it, or plug it in via USB cable. Can't just use your computer's bluetooth or DS4Windows (so I just plug it in). However, the quality and lag I had with my PC wasn't tolerable, so I ended up picking up an Uncharted edition matte blue for a decent deal. Was using the matte blue UC4 PS Gold headset and a matte blue DS4 on my PC anyway. Have both the PS4 and PC on my monitor. Also, I realized after I sold my launch PS4 that I had in my basement after I got the pro, that I wanted the second PS4 to play Gran Turismo when it came out so I don't have to lug my racing wheel setup up and down the stairs.

I really wish Sony let you keep a game disk in one PS4, and if you play on a second PS4 with the same account, you should be able to authenticate the game over the network and play on the second PS4 without having to take the disk with you. Just lock the first PS4 while the second one is playing the game. My current network setup isn't great for remote play on my PStv or PC. I need to run some ethernet cables in my house, because my ethernet over power adapters don't have good enough bandwidth, and wifi is spotty depending on what others are doing at the time.

The Vita thread is just an Anime porn thread 80% of the time. So I kinda of just think of the PS4 thread as the Sony gaming thread in general. Vita remote play and cross save between Vita and PS4 games keeps it relevant too.

If you can find it the old third party remote play PC app will give you the wifi password for your PS4 so you can connect your computer to it directly, it's supposed to be much faster but I haven't tested it myself.
