Like many people, I'm probably gonna avoid massdrop from now on if I can. The savings typically aren't that great and they have some big supply chain and communication issues. As for the engineer dudes, well I wouldn't be surprised if they just don't know how to read contracts.

Massdrop is great for anything that's Massdrop exclusive. Everything else, I just get from China. Really interested to get my hands on the True's and Clear's in the future though.

After the ergodox infinity arrived they sent a survey asking if I'd recommend them to a friend. Might put that kit up one eBay actually as I bought a Kinesis Advantage when I didn't hear anything for several weeks.

Constellation I posted:Massdrop is great for anything that's Massdrop exclusive. Everything else, I just get from China. same, which is a shame because a lot of the market for custom stuff is consolidating on massdrop. then again, the previous big names in custom cap group buys were also sketchy fuckers, so massdrop is at least better in terms of reliability. https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/wiki/psagroupbuys for anything off the shelf (ie the wasd i'm typing on right now) you're not going to save much more than a few bucks, which makes no sense considering the order delay unless there's some specific conditions (shipping, don't care about delay, etc) in play. do use them for custom keycap sets you fancy (because you don't have a choice, really) but that's about it.

I'm not going to use Massdrop again. This drama is certainly part of it, but more than that, I have pretty keycaps, and a Code coming my way, so I don't need to buy any more keyboard stuff. I mean, what else could I possibly want?

Well, for Massdrop surprises: the Miami Dolch set is ahead of schedule and should be on the way to their warehouse for shipping soon. Over a month faster than estimated. Doesn't make up for a planck that is 3 months late to ship and a keyset that is still MIA.

Sometimes patent bitchiness goes the other way too. Not keyboard related (but Massdrop related) but I was hoping they'd do one of the O2+ODAC sets again but apparently whoever bought the design said "nope, no group buy sites ever". Anyway I still like to check things out, sometimes it's not the price of the actual object it's the reduced shipping costs that make the buys worthwhile.

Massdrop responds: https://www.massdrop.com/talk/2342/massdrop-halo-switch-updatequote:In our agreement for the HALO switch, Input Club requested an exception to our exclusive distribution rights to allow them to offer switches directly to end customers as replacement parts and as standalone switches via their website. This was a reasonable request, so we agreed and wrote it into the agreement. After that, Input Club launched their kickstarter campaign for the Whitefox, offering HALO switches as an option. This was against the terms of our agreement, so we reached out to let them know and discuss ways to move forward. Yup, sounds like I:C got rolled on the licensing agreement.

yeah but that's just them being dicks at that point since it could be reasonably interpreted that since they retained retail rights on their own sales channel for individual switches, that they also had discretion to sell finished goods, and quite possibly on peripheral channels otherwise the easy out for input club is to sell however thousands of single switches at cost to the newly minted input clũb and have them run the kickstarter

I've never done any gaming with it, as I was using it at work. Only reason I stopped was because I use 10 key fairly often. ***edit*** Not sure if it matters or not, but mine has Cherry Browns. Just in case you end up not wanting that one, Kinesis currently is discounting their refurbs an extra 10%, which is what I went with. Got the Qwerty/Dvorak model. Dvorak owns.

I'm so far down the rabbit hole. I just flipped a HHKB for a Leopold FC980C. I already own a pok3r with Mx clears (with some aluminum case from massdrop and dsa granite keycaps). Now I have a filco minila in Mx blacks coming in the mail just because "I might like the layout and why not". And I'm looking at the 1up LJD61UP carbon fibre diy kits. I don't get why it's such a slippery slope.

I've had a Steelseries 7G at home for a few years, mostly for gaming with a bit of coding, but I'm looking to get something a bit nicer. I also have a Matias Tactile Pro which I use for coding at work which I really like, so I was considering the Matias Quiet Pro so I don't drive my wife crazy. I've also been looking at either the Filco Majestouch-2 or the Varmilo VA109M - any opinions as to which is nicer, or other boards I should think about? I don't care about backlighting and I'd prefer a 100% ISO UK layout.

Hey keyboard thread! I'm looking for a good basic keyboard with function- and media keys, nothing too blingy or expensive. I'd also like it to be quiet. Main use surfing and some gaming. Any recommendations for those criteria? I'm currently using a cheap dell keyboard, but I really liked my old thinkpad's tiping experience. Apple's full keyboard seemed good enough , but function and media keys are not distinct, plus it's expensive. Logitech G213 was another candidate, but I hate the gamer bling, and I'm afraid of the noise of those mechanical keys Thanks in advance for your help!

I think Gateron switches are still well regarded as the best of the cheap Cherry knockoffs. Downside is it doesn't come in black, far as I know. Personally I prefer clears over browns, but browns are still spectacular compared to rubber dome mush. If $70 is still more than you want to spend you could try this one which I don't know anything about except it's well reviewed. There's also its somehow even cheaper (30 freakin' dollars!) tenkeyless cousin.

Logitech G213 was another candidate, but I hate the gamer bling, and I'm afraid of the noise of those mechanical keys gonna go in the other budget direction, if you're looking for something absolutely not gamer-y, consider the code and the wasd. very similar boards with slight differences, but basically: - the code comes back lit in solid white and ships with keycaps - the wasd has no backlight ships either with or without keycaps in your case: - avoid stuff with blue or green switches, those are the noisiest. consider adding orings to the order as well, they help with at least part of the noise problem. - if you need a backlight, go code - if you you want a custom set of keycaps immediately, go barebones wasd - if in doubt, go code both use fn & the home cluster as a media player: (arguably not as good as dedicated media keys, but if you ever want to start playing with custom keycaps at least you won't have to deal with a 107/108 layout instead of the 104 standard, plus the shortcuts are easy to pick up) clean, dependable, well supported, these are in the $150 range but they're a nice midpoint in much nicer than average boards that don't cost actually absurd amounts of money. load it up with clears for that tactile bump that helps you not bottom out and slap some orings in, it's going to be noisier than the average rubber dome $5 dell special but still well within the realm of reason. if you want some sweet rear end media keys, the das 4 professional and das 4 ultimate are always nice staples: for my money i'd go with a code, but these in brown switches would suit your needs. these version 4 models do not have a back light, and due to rather erratic quality control reports on the generations following them, i'd stick to these for that brand. they msrp at ~$170 with browns. can't wouch for them, but matias quiet linear switches are supposed to be very quiet, so you have options there too in the $100-$150 range: http://matias.ca/quietpro/pc/ https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_list&c=87 and finally, at the more expensive end of the spectrum, anything topre & silenced is going to pretty drat quiet: https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=2875 250ish range tl;dr: get a code, they're great

A couple days ago, my KBParadise V80 started randomly typing As when I wasn't pressing them. It started to manifest while playing a game, where I would get stuck running sideways until I tapped A again, but at one point it automatically filled a text box when I was away from the keyboard for a while. Any ideas as to what could be the cause?
