Nice! Have you settled on any specific regiments? I'm about to order some flags, and I'm having a hard time to settle. To make matters worse, they switched to the 1812 style flags (the ones looking like normal tricolors) DURING the campaign, so I have to decide whether to go for old flag or new ones.

Yeah, I'm going to supplement my gaming buddy's forces, which are 2nd division, I corps (13. legere, 17., 19., and 51. line), so I'm painting 1st division, I corps. My goal is to paint the entire 1st. brigade, so 54. and 55. line. These are 1. battalion 54. reg.

You're lucky you can choose. Pick the ones that you like the best, now that you can justify both. There is something cool about the old triangle-in-the-corner-flags, but a good ol' fashioned tricolour is hard to beat.

Surprisingly nice, for an evil Inca mummy.
A shop in town is having a 25% off sale, which means that the Gale Force 9 Tanks game with Battlefront plastic tanks is £13.50 for the starter set and £5.25 for the expansion packs (Shermans, Panthers etc.). Does anyone have experience of the game? Is it worth it as a toe-in-the-water exercise at this price?

It's...OK? It's basically X-Wing, but with tanks (naturally). I mean, if you can find other people to play with, it's fairly standalone. There's a few other 15mm WW2 games you could then use the minis for, if you're so inclined.

Its fine without being exceptional in any way whatsover. We used to play it at my old club as a way to kill the last half hour after the big boy games were done.

Cool, I was actually considering the I corps at Borodino, and maybe the 1st or 5th division. But the 1st division at that time was the 13th Light, 17th Line and 30th Line. It doesn't help that they crammed 5 field battalions into every regiment!

And in one way I'm lucky to be able to choose, but in the other way it's a hard choice. I highly suspect I'll do some regiment specific 1812 flags, and then just a few of the generic earlier style flag. After all, I don't plan to have that many regiments in total.

Saga is going to release a new set of books in 2018

I saw a werewolf/jabberwocky thing... I'm not worried though. I'm guessing that they won't disrupt the core game but add on poo poo to facilitate campaigns. That might be neat, like a frostgrave sort of approach, I might run such a thing.

If it's Waterloo, you can use this site: http://centjours.mont-saint-jean.com/organigrammes.php

There are no "correct" paint matches, so just use whatever you like think looks like the closest match.

I'm kind of sad because I'm totally out of fantasy/sci-fi wargaming these days, but my only regular opponent (and best mate) is not into historicals at all. In fact, you may remember me posting my ECW Royalists/Parliamentarians about 4-5 months ago, and since then we've only managed a single game of Kings of War in all that time. As soon as you get into the 'solo play' mechanisms, you may as well be playing a computer game :(

They have pdf's now? Anyway, play the game now. I don't think the core gameplay will be tweaked too much. It's already really solid.

Being a historical grog sometimes means you have to do both armies, terrain, etc. It's a hard pill to swallow at first but it comes with the territory.

Me and Team Yankee for instance :smith: As far as I can tell no bastard plays this anywhere near me and whilst I was able to talk some pals into buying in, they never did anything with their starter boxes afaik.

Nah. It's better written than CoC, which we made a laundry list of extra rules for. There are some edge cases that you have to decide yourself, but most of it works out of the box.

I don't play Brits or Hanoverians, but here are some of my Vallejo hot tips:

Greatcoats: Cork Brown, German Camo Brown and Highlight British Tank Crew are all good colours for beige/brown coats. I wash them with brown and maybe a bit of black afterwards, and then a second coat. Cork brown is a very useful paint in general, you can use it for stuff like the water gourds, strings, etc. I also use it as a basecoat for flesh, to give a darker shade to build upon.

Uniforms: After some experimentation, I decided that I prefer a darker blue for my French uniforms in 28mm. Dark Prussian Blue is the closest one to the Armour Painter "Dark Blue" that I'm using now, and I've ordered a bottle that hasn't arrived yet. I'm satisfied with the colour of the Dark Blue paint, but I hope the consistency of the Vallejo paint will be better.

Muskets: Vallejo's Light Rust is my go-to paint for muskets, it's a solid paint.

For the white straps, I use Ghost Grey, followed by pure white.

For everything gold, I've switched to Vallejo's Old Gold. You can do a base layer of a more coppery metal first.

I'm currently using Life Color for my blacks, but they are running out and I plan to find some good Vallejo paints to replace them.

Cool. I have a box of warlord hessians and a box of warlord continentals. I take it another box per side is enough?

I will be basing on the Warlord 25mm lipped bases. Is there an mdf multibase that fits these available from somewhere in the unit sizes for SP2?

Looking at the Hessian box, it's 30 men per box, including 6 skirmishers? Two such boxes would be a solid starting point indeed, as you'll get six units of ranked infantry, and two units of skirmishers. So you can either make three small formations or two bigger ones, and experiment with a skirmish screen as well.

Personally I think that 25mm is a bit big for ranked infantry, as they're will be a lot of room between the soldiers. In the picture above I've used 20mm, and I still think they look a bit sparse for Napoleonic era troops, but individual 15mm bases were just not possible. 25mm will work well for skirmishers, but I think you should at least try a dry fit with some 20mm bases, and see which one you prefer. Either way there are MDF multibases available for the unit size, you can either go with 2x2 men or or 2x4. I went with the latter, and got mine through Supreme Littleness Design, but there are a lot of alternatives out there.

Yes, that's me. And now that I've had a chance to read it, I stand by that opinion: the combat is less abstract that AK-47, but the inspiration is undeniably from the Pig. Again, IMO that's a good thing! :)
