there very little window for input error in ST sadly. if it helps the game registers special inputs on both hitting and releasing the button and ive found it easier for some reason to time stuff by letting go of a button instead of hittig it.

you probably aren't hitting down or downforward cleanly. if you get a hadoken you went to far with the df. if you get a crouching punch you didn't hit df clean.

I think in ST there's a few frames where it will prioritize the SRK motion if you do a fireball at the end of it but the amount of frames is random. Or something like that.
