Well he was still running as a Republican. (He also torpedoed McCain's chances in the 2000 primary by putting it out there that he had an illegitimate black child, as I recall.)

I'm thinking mostly of the whole 'compassionate conservative' thing.

He's just a folksy everyday guy with a trust fund and a Yale degree and a membership in Skull & Bones.

(Man, I just remembered the conspiracy-minded folks in my neck of the woods in 2004 going NUTS because both Bush and Kerry were in Skull & Bones.)

Witness what Henry did in Cambodia - the fruits of his genius for statesmanship - and you will never understand why he’s not sitting in the dock at the Hague next to Milosevic. While Henry continues to nibble nori rolls and remaki at A-list parties, Cambodia, the neutral nation he secretly and illegally bombed, invaded, undermined, and then threw to the dogs, is still trying to raise itself up on its one remaining leg.”

The obvious solution is to abolish money anyway

It probably doesn't say good things about me that I see this headline and think "good, it'd please bad dems way too much if he changed his party registration just to appease them"

I friggin' love that the most influential Democrat is actually an Independent because the rah-rah party-loyalty Team-Blue Dems who hate the idea of a Democrat being criticized more than they hate anything else are the main reason I never registered Democratic either

For me it's more about rebalancing the power structure of employment. If I no longer need to work in order to survive/maintain a reasonably comfortable life, then the people who need work done need to offer better reasons for me to do it.

Now, if the UBI isn't enough to really live on, then things in that regard actually get worse, but that's a solvable problem.

Fond as I am of referring to Democratic Senator Bernie Sanders as a Democrat, which he is, I agree. He's effectively defining by example what the Democratic Party should be, and the people who resist (and #resist) that are the ones who are in the wrong.

You should be suspicious of any vote that seems that close. Someone can be strategically chosen as an intentional fall guy so that everyone else looks like the good guys. Better to have one easy scapegoat than several. The democratic party establishment backed lieberman against the primary challenger after lieberman was the "bad guy."

edit: Also during that same period, Obama literally went to kucinich's district to threaten him because he was holding out for a public option.
