We were still slated to go on pac with the Stennis strike group, so for poo poo like comptuex the triad told us we would be fast cruising for two weeks. After like 3 days we eventually just ended up going to shift work for the watches and told people to show up for the 8 hours you were supposed to be on your 'underway' watch for, and as long as no one was late if you weren't on watch you didn't have to be onboard. Amazingly no one hosed it up but man 2 weeks of a fast cruise might have started a mutiny.

The new track suit is replacing the hoody and matching pants. I was asked if I would wash them twice and dry them while ignoring the cleaning instructions to see if they shrink when the average sailor gets a hold of them. I really like my boss.

Short shorts are the best. I enjoyed when we didn't have a set PT uniform. Was fun being at a joint command and having some sort of joint run for like Independence Day or something. First, seeing the Army and Marines being there usual proper formations and having manuals to do formations. Then you'd have the AF doing their thing. Finally, it was us kind of milling about in no real formation with just about everyone in a different shirt and shorts. Truly it was the best for dumb, group events.

Really curious if base COs were ignorant (or willfully ignorant) or just complicit or believed it was a legit operation. I mean if you showed up and there was an apparently legit tenant police department what would have to happen for you to say "are they legit?".

It's also Norfolk Naval Shipyard, which is a whole other onion-layer bureaucratic nightmare of competing agencies, military and civilian. I could totally see something like this going under everyone's radar at NNSY.

There is a really good feeling: after you get out and want to take a long weekend out to Vegas or something. And you don't have to ask permission for going "out of area." Also not shaving.

So CTF 70 and DESRON 15 got fired and CNSP requested to retire a few months earlier then planned. Gotta say, I saw the DESRON firing coming but the CTF 70 one surprised me.
