I just had an Exquisite Timing run tanked by the assassin sabotaging my research, ends up it delays shadow chamber projects too. Maybe if I had have chosen research perfectly I'd have time for it, but as it stands I think I'll be at least 3 days late. Building ranger, ranger, reaper templar, run and gun specialist, spark, and anything seems the way to go, especially after playing betastrike for a while.

Any tips for Vanilla? I'll be firing up my Timing run after this one. Seems like you'd skip workshop and AWC, and maybe even delay GTS in favor for a fast lab?

During the Chosen missions the Warlock says to you "We're here to protect you from what comes next" and I feel that was said in the first game as well?
So surely that's their plan for the next game.

Good game!
Something the game never mentions on those "sneaky" rescue missions is that you can use the reapers claymore and blow it up and it doesnt trigger any kind of response/alarms. So you can either just blow a hole in the wall to rescue your soldier more easily or blow up the door.

The old style supply raid where you simply avoid destroying the boxes still exists. Thats true in general, no mission types were cut but since they added an alternative to basically all of them its possible you won't see the ones you like in a single campaign.

When it's lost and ADVENT I often send a reaper up and just do loads of Remote Starts.
That'll sort it out pretty fast.

The new supply raids are the old terror, the new terror are... some weird bullshit where you show up on scene and mop up for the resistance.

The new resistance missions would probably would be a challenge if the Advent AI wasn't catatonic most of the time.

After researching plasma rifles, but being too poor to upgrade, I was ruefully musing over the occasional additional resistance soldier from the card/continent bonus that come equipped with them. Then, on the second mission they appeared after plasma research, I noticed they have 95 aim? My jaw dropped.

The Assassin recognizes that what the Elders are doing is awful, humanity's getting a raw deal out of it but doesn't think they have a choice and that humanity basically has to take one for the team and pleads with XCOM to stop. When she dies she hopes XCOM wins so I guess she thinks they can take it by that point.

Dammit I should have thought of that. He even had a melee vulnerability which is hilarious because I have like five high ranked rangers. :cripes:

At the very least I can be super smug that the Chosen specifically have taken more casualties than XCOM :smuggo: I've only lost a single Spark, although hoo man there's been a lot of panicked sprints to the evac zone carrying bleeding out comrades. The Hunter mission ended with one guy dazed, one guy bleeding out, three people covered in acid, and one guy mind controlled. It was a complete miracle that a ranger's bondmate had a single movement left, and I used it to Teamwork the ranger and loving vapourize the chosen with an axe :black101:

Couldn't you get it by literally taking 1 tired Reaper onto a Blacksite mission and ghosting the gently caress out of it?

The mission is kinda hard if you are still just on magnetics, although still doable. Some folks like to keep them around for flavor / AP farming though.

The other issue I have with Suppression is that its an ability you want to use near the very end of your turn on a soldier who you generally want to act first. Holotarget, shred, and grenades are all things you want to use first to increase other allies' aim, damage, crit chance, etc. Suppression is an ability I want to save to use against whichever target somehow survives. If I'm trying to minimize damage coming to me, then using my grenadier to kill/injure/shred/HT/strip cover as many enemies as possible is better than using them to (maybe) Salvo and then save them for Suppression.

There's zero reason to lockdown a single enemy with it when they can be dead. It should probably be changed to giving an aim penalty to enemies targeted by the grenadier and paired with HT while Demolition (is buffed slightly) and Heavy Ordnance are paired.

e: Its a lot more useful on characters like Specialists. Its a good ability, it just isn't a good ability on a class that has better options in combat the vast majority of the time.

It's a poorly-fitted holdover from the first game, where it fit in well with the gunner tree [putting aside that you're mad for not taking more rockets instead]. You could suppress an enemy, light them up with holo-targetting (this part still exists), turn it into an AoE suppress, and then deal chip dmg to everyone stuck in it. Synergies! It was also grossly suboptimal since more rockets where way better, but it was cute. So, in XCOM2 they actually added good gunner skills that, you know, actually kill people dead with that huge fuckoff gun they're toting. But we still have suppression. Shrug.

See also: smoke grenades.

XCOM 1 had Light 'em Up vs Holo-targetting which may be the most grossly unbalanced skill choice in the series. Especially at Squaddie.

Hmm, I can pick the one that lets me shoot twice per turn or the one that gives a lovely minor to hit bonus for everyone else :effort:
