Probably no real updates from the courses for my part today, I am working a regular shift at the firehouse today, so unless we have to respond to something close to the course, we are just watching it on tv when we can.

It's raining today tho, so that might affect the u23/juniors TTs, the rain is also forecasted to last until Friday night. So it could get a bit chilly for the riders on the ITTs. I dont know how nice a speed suit is in 12c and rain

Gotta say, I'm not sure they should have given her another bike. Teenagers heal fast, sure, but that's some good damage.

Pretty drat psyched about tomorrow, in particular the finish. I know the whole area very well and have done plenty of training there - although in the final climb I've only been walking, perhaps brisk walking at best. It's so cool that the best cyclists in the world are going to be taking over our little hill and making it part of sports history. The steepest bit really is very steep, I think it's 17% or 1:6. It hurts the calves just to walk it, up or down. If it's wet, which it looks like it will be, they will probably struggle with traction. Going to go up early and try to find a good spot near the steepest bit and spend all day there.

Psyched as well, the clouds are currently covering the finish, but are breaking up. I expect it to be clear and dry before the race starts.

I am currently posted on a atv dedicated for transporting people needing medical care at hospital, currently this atv is located 2m from the finish line, and I am not moving if I don't have to

Edit: clouds are lifting and breaking. This is going to be magical

I don't think it did. How did they get on the road? The climb looks very thoroughly cordoned off.

By the way, now that there's a bunch of Norwegian posters in this thread I just want to say that the "Laks er viktig for Norge" logo on the Norwegian skinsuits (and plastered everywhere at the Arctic Race of Norway) is that special, extremely Norwegian combination of cute and bewildering.

It's hilarious for us as well, it's such a careful motto, it doesn't quite believe in itself. "Salmon is important for Norway". It's because they couldn't fit the first bit of the sentence: "Yes there are controversial environmental implications but"

Just doing a quick post now, will post some pics later from my day in the finish area. I had a blast.

The guy on a mobility scooter had gotten waved onto the course by a Marshall, under the understanding that he was to drive the short bit up to the relief road where the Motos pealed of too, so that he could take the funicular down the hill.
For some reason he didn't, and went up the final bit of course, and then finally was stopped by course marshals and police, just as he was about to cross the finish line, witch would have been a "big deal tm" due to some restrictions on the photo cell finish thing. we got told to not let anyone over the line. Problem is, the dude was inside the course, he could not go up and over the line, he could not drive onto the hilly sides of the track, and we could not let him down the hill.

So the fence was opened, and he was put out on the empty area on the left side of the finish, and then we carried him and the chair up some steps, and let the police talk to him about his decision making skills, and then he was sent down the hill on a funicular.

Other than that, and a few half hearted people trying to run the course, the top went smoothly and I have had a great day.

Even bigger news than the Worlds -

Tour de Yorkshire is finally going to be 4 days, starting from next year.

http://letour.yorkshire.com/news/tour-de-yorkshire-to-grow-from-three-to-four-days-in-2018

quote:

Organisers Welcome to Yorkshire and A.S.O had been seeking to extend the race after its phenomenal success over the last three years, and cycling’s world governing body the UCI confirmed the decision on Thursday with the four-day Tour de Yorkshire being included on their 2018 Europe Tour calendar between Thursday 3rd and Sunday 6th May.

And if that wasn’t enough, the Asda Women’s Tour de Yorkshire will also double in size next year, increasing from one to two days on Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th May.
