Yeah it's a gathering of basically communist organizers and activists, mostly as far as I can tell affiliated with PSL and its affiliate orgs like answer coalition etc. I have been in and out of it this weekend but I had a chance to catch part of the opening plenary and a couple of workshops. The workshops have been real great - hearing from people who actually do the work in working class communities is really great. I sat in on a community organization workshop and heard from undocumented women organizing - and "proletarianizing" - other undocumented women who had been trafficked into this country (they were big fans of Maoism and owned hard lol). Most of the workshops I sat in on were about immigration and gentrification/housing issues. The crowd is mostly young, pretty diverse, I'd peg it at a couple hundred people. I'm making new friends and catching up with some old ones. If this wasn't such a crazy weekend here's in DC (juggalos, my family visiting, my car needs service etc) I'd be getting even more out of it it's a conference that is doing a real cool job of drawing connections between all the different struggles of people in the movement - connecting anti-racism, anti-capitalism, anti-imperialism, feminism, queer activism, and more - across all the different fronts of the struggles and across the whole country The manifesto they put out and are drafting is pretty cool. hope they do this again

I like to stick with Marx and consider communism the economic system and anarchism the political system. They're related but not the same. Like the Soviet Union was definitely communist but not very anarchist in any real sense. Somalia is pretty dang anarchist but it's not exactly a Marxist dream either

No the USSR referred to itself as communist, leading to the European tendency for non-Stalinist groups to define themselves as socialists rather than communists. All in all, this just demonstrates that defining these things is a total loving mess and rather than getting lovely over a particular label you should abuse your opponents based on their terrible ideas.
