The Reckless on Broadway is really good, and I would also recommend Dusty Groove on Ashland and Hyde Park Records.

e: also Shuga Records is right down the street from Dusty Groove if you head there.

Bought a pack of 25 LPs on eBay, mostly 80s pop, some punk, some punk compilations, and a 12" single. With shipping, came to under $3 each.

Permanent is better and about to close. Chicago and Oakleyish. Also Bucket o Blood flooded and should have lots of good punk and metal on sale because of that.

Oh, Dee, you card. :-*
I asked a little earlier, but I'll ask again because I'm running into the same issue with a different record: are there any sites besides Discogs that I can use to identify an album? I picked up a New Zealand pressing of The Best of Cream but the labels don't match any of the NZ pressings on Discogs. At this point I find it really hard to believe I would have uncatalogued Procol Harum and Cream albums, so I'm wondering if they're bootlegs or something.

They could be counterfeit pressings or they might just not be cataloged on Discogs. Releases of dad rock type stuff often have about nine million pressings. My suggestion would be to actually create a discogs listing for those and see if anyone else provides more information or confirms your suspicions as to whether or not they are bootlegs. It could take a while, but that's probably your best bet.

I appreciate the advice. I'll add them tomorrow afternoon while listening to this week's haul. I have a Japanese pressing of The Fifth Dimension's Live!! I was gonna add this weekend anyway.

I've been following this thread a little loosely, but doesn't Discogs delete bootlegs now? Was that just a weird one-time purge?

They can't be bought/sold on Discogs anymore, but they can still be listed and added to collections. It also disabled price history for unofficial releases and you can't see who has them in their collections anymore unless you look directly at the collections themselves. You used to be able to click the have/want numbers to see anyone who had or wanted the album, too. I assume it is to keep people from contacting each other and trading/selling off-site.

I wanted this so bad when I was a kid, and I found a copy at a thrift store yesterday for the princely sum of 99 cents.

It came with a rad book too.

Because I totally picked one up at Goodwill over the weekend solely because I recognized the name from somewhere.

Herb Alpert- and at least in my experience, Anne Murray- are staples of Goodwills, yes. Probably because he was massively popular with a generation who have been dying off in droves over the past decade, and their adult children take their dad's records to Goodwill

Was walking to work the other day and noticed a small box of vinyl a few houses down from mine. Starting flipping through them and looked like a bunch of decent jazz. There was another guy emptying out the house and said all the trash bags were full of more records. He said his pops passed on and he couldn't find a buyer for any of them. Ended up giving him $20 and hauling a bunch of trash bags up to my apartment. Not the biggest jazz expert but a few things I found flipping through the first 50 or so.

See if you have any Billy Cobham in there, too. I've noticed when a Duke record goes up at a thrift store there's usually a Cobham in the mix.
