Cracking stuff. 10% is still a fairly high barrier but I suppose a leader does need a little parliamentary support. Still, nothing is forever. Pretty sure Blairites thought they had an eternal grasp on the leadership once upon a time. Not even the post-war consensus lasted forever.

From what I understand, after the election result it was expected that a candidate from the left of the party would be able to get nominated even if the percentage of parliamentary support had remained the same, both because more MPs have been convinced the left could win an election and because quite a few of the new MPs are left wing anyway.

I suspect it's a negotiation tactic to make uber take them seriously and they'll end up granting the appeal if uber agrees to be less poo poo. Uber's an awful company though, so I kinda hope they just get banned from the streets of London.

They will send emails to anybody with an uber account saying (local mp) banned you from using uber because of big cab bribes. Call them and tell them how unhappy you are using this calling card voucher.

Although I'm kinda sad and skeptical that our great hope is an ancient old 70s lefty I do fuckin love how boring corbyn is. It's the single reason he hasnt been monstered into an early grave by the papers, there really is gently caress all on him.

The worst thing he's done is hosed a black woman and made friends with people on the right side of history like the IRA, Hamas and Osama Bin Laden.

If you have listened to the maiden speeches of the kids who got swept in off the back of jezzmentum I think there is a rich vein of talent to carry forwards Jezza's opus

Byolante posted:If you have listened to the maiden speeches of the kids who got swept in off the back of jezzmentum I think there is a rich vein of talent to carry forwards Jezza's opus Yeah, the issue really is the gap between Jezza and the younger generation. The Labour left don't have a lot of options in that 40-50 age range of MPs which is why there is some low-level concern about Corbyn's successor, although it's less of a problem now that there's no danger of constant coup attempts.

Corbyn/Bernie are loved precisely because they're 70 year old lefties. A young lefty upstart can't have the same gravitas, recognition, legitimacy as an old red who's been harping about the same stuff, putting his career on the line time and time again for decades. I think there can be a good transition, both in the US and UK between the newfound power of old lefties and the younger anti-austerity types.

I just found out the following "Today Edward VII’s sex chair still survives, and is currently held by a private collector who claims that it is still used for it’s purpose. A replica of the chair is on display at the Museum of Sex in Prague." Someone is still loving on a sex chair made for the son of Queen Victoria.
