The announcement came late at night so there's been no follow-up to this at all. Hasn't stopped Kadokawa's stock price from going into a free-fall though, so I expect there to be something before lunch if not breakfast. Also it's now Tatsuki's birthday.

I quit a job on my birthday once. Best drat birthday present I ever got. Kemono Friends became popular because something with so much heart is rarely seen. Kadokawa has now demonstrated why it's so rarely seen.

From what I understand, the argument used is that doujin stuff doesn't infringe copyright because is not using any of the official resources whereas 12.1 actually had participation from the show's VAs and thus it broke copyright. Not that it makes the whole thing any less stupid but yeah.

I'm fairly certain doujins very much do break copyright law. They just don't sue them because it's actively beneficial to have more people talking about the original, and it would also be PR suicide for any companies involved. You know, exactly the same reasons you wouldn't fire a very talented director for making extra things for a show.
