The regular sixty card deck thing is probably the most common tho I can't speak to practices outside of what my friends do. One of my friends likes Commander which seemed like a dumb gimmick. You probably need to drop a lot of money to make a competitive deck to like go to game shops and kick rear end, casual among friends sort of play should be really cheap tho. Also I got dragged along to one of those game shop release night events a few years back and yeah, cannot really recommend tho I was shocked at how many people still do them. Also they got rid of mana burn and added like 5000 keywords.
