It's a piece of JUNK!
While I'm not mad about advertising old movies with "spoilers", and understand the marketing logic to it, I do think there's a case to be made for not doing it. In theory, if I knew about the twist at the end of Planet of the Apes before watching it -- but all advertising material and cover art related to it still acted like it was a secret -- it would still to some extent preserve the original narrative. I would "get" that I'm not supposed to know about that going into the movie. The movie's supposed to work on its own internal logic and mostly make sense without that. Whereas if the cover of the movie shows that right away, I'd think this is something that happens maybe halfway into the movie at most. And when it actually happens at the very end, it's a bit of a letdown.

I was about to casually mention having read the novel (in its original language), but you ruined it

I have to say the movie's twist is more compelling than that of the novel. lol while you were gone Earth somehow also got taken over by apes in a completely unrelated series of events

If you can't sell something based on its content, but instead rely on me getting hyped by watching other people get hyped, I am not very interested. If the hype-people are Youtube "stars" I am WAAAAAAAAAY less interested.

If it's a TV show I'll go to IMDB and check how many episodes the actor is in.

I've learned it doesn't work if they just show up in later episodes as a corpse.

Celebrity endorsements are not a dumb marketing move. They do rely on the endorser being someone your target aspires to be like. Most likely guess is you're not the demographic for that particular ad, though you still may be for the product in general.

You may be correct, but post-teenage I have never been swayed by "celebrity endorsement" if anything it makes me leery of the product. That said screaming Youtubers reacting to jump-scares the video game is targeting teens and preteens quite precisely.

See, I don't think spoilers should matter when actually discussing media because if you, as someone who doesn't want to be spoiled, go into a place specifically discussing that thing then what the gently caress are you expecting. But someone who walks around just bellowing plot twists to people who hadn't seen the latest episode of game of thrones yet is kind of being an rear end in a top hat. If they wanted to know, they would have looked it up themselves.

Freshman high school lit class, and our first book was The Hobbit. I'd never read it before so hearing it was about a dragon got my interest.

The same day the teacher passed out the book, she gave us all a printout that today would have come from Wikipedia: a plot list and a character sheet detailing every loving person in the book. Smaug, okay cool, he the dragon. Next to Bard's name was "he kills Smaug."

Seriously what the gently caress was the point in reading the loving book when we had a goddamn outline that pretty much spelled out the story?

I am coming to despise trailers that are over 30 seconds. I don't need to see every loving thing about the movie! Leave me something to see!

Though you get problems when there are multiple versions of the media you're discussing. I'm not terribly familiar with the series but I know Game of Thrones was a series of novels before it was a TV show. People who go to a place specifically discussing Game of Thrones because they want to talk about the latest episode can still get spoiled by stuff from the books that hasn't been adapted yet.

Me crush ass to dust

I saw the first season again recently and it's weird how it's mostly a gritty and realistic medieval drama show. In season 7 it's pretty much lord of the rings.

walrusman
Aug 4, 2006

I was disappointed by season 7 getting too far into the magic fantasy poo poo and veering away from the solid, realistic underpinnings that made everything feel earned, made you give a poo poo whether the characters lived or died. It was the worst season by a mile and season 8 is going to have to be pretty spectacular to keep a lot of people from feeling disappointed by the whole experience.

On the other hand, season 7 didn't spend an agonizing amount of time pretending the sand snakes were interesting so it's hard to call it the worst season.

It had the second-most Sand Snakes of any season, but it was the runaway leader in "scenes where characters who used to be smart and consistent make insane decisions in order to keep the plot moving."
