New anti-thargoid weapons are size 2 dumbfire missile racks in both fixed and turret configurations. Thinking of buying a Fer-De-Lance because it seems that it's the best ship for this; my Corvette has trouble keeping a bead on a Thargoid ship because of how fast they are. Looks like in order to defeat them you need to hit certain points on their ships with missiles so the typical "overpower them with insane firepower" Corvette strategy doesn't seem to apply anyway.

Edit: Federal Gunship might be good too because it has 4 medium hardpoints and room for a fighter bay which is key for dealing with the drone swarms.

Depends on what you're after, I suppose. There are quite a few neat space games out now, so it's more a matter of picking one that does what you want. Waiting for a game that does nothing of that and that will also never come out seems like a less sensible option.

Oh in no way did I mean to imply I believed SC was anything else but a fever dream, my apologies.

I don't know, everything in Elite Dangerous feels so dead. I've been playing off and on since release, so I do enjoy some things, I just wish it was 'better' in that regard I guess.

It's kinda bad when the amount of poo poo you can do in Elite Dangerous has been overtaken by No Man's Sky of all games.

Ok, I wanna get me a shiny corvette, but I'm not rear admiral rank. Niu Hsing sucks right now... i think. The boards there just had a lot of "mine these rocks" jobs I kept taking and then buying from their market and then turning in the mission. So a little rep and a little profit... but not much. The delivery jobs to COL 285 don't exist, in their place are a ton of delivery missions 22,000 LY away in Colonia. No thanks.

Is there anywhere better to grind fed rep right now? Niu Hsing isn't boom right now tho... but it is pending. Should I just tough it out here?

Huh, I had the 22,000 credit delivery to Colonia too on the board out in Synteini. Totally not capable of doing it in my type 6.

Tun/Tuns Wart is a good place for that, especially after 2.4. You can get tons of data deliveries to HP 535(?) and if you want cash Hyperion apparently has one hell of a party going, you can get multiple 1 mil+ cargo missions just shipping booze there.

Winged up with some pubs and killed 2 Thargoids tonight. They are essentially raid bosses complete with phase transitions with every subsystem destroyed. In addition to their main gun and their drone swarm they also gain yellow lightning that fucks with your displays and modules, caustic missiles that deal 1% hull damage every 20 seconds or so and can't be removed except by docking, and their EMP which disables your entire group and gives it 20 seconds of free shots on you.

Did it with me in a Federal Assault Ship, a Fer-De-Lance, and two Federal Gunships both of which were making GBS threads out fighters at every opportunity. When they die they leave a giant cloud of gas that applies the caustic missile effect which makes retrieving anything they drop a risk.

It was loving sick. They added actual substantial combat gameplay and it rules.

Checking in from Zeaex, where we're willing to pay YOU over 150,000 credits to fly to Colonia with our outbreak data.

I'm only sort of Cordial and Friendly with the minor factions at my home base of operations, and they're always asking me to mine water, cobalt, and liquid oxygen for them so last night I set out to make them happy. I took the plastic wrap off the console of my never-used Cutter, swapped out everything for cargo racks and headed to the next system over, where they just sell that crap for like 100 credits each. Loaded up with almost 700 tons of stuff I've "mined" and dumped it all back into the mission boards. This is what people grind Cutters for, right? To do one-hop missions carrying almost 100,000 credits worth of cargo? Well some of the profit is used to repair the ship because I scrape the top of the mailslot every drat time.

That's when I noticed that every one of the mining missions is Reputation: Low. I'm really glad I am cheesing this instead of actually going out to mine what you want because I can't imagine if it took me a couple hours to go mine a cargo bay full of random crap for a third of the minor faction rep I could get if you just asked me for 25,000 credits. Also gently caress you to the snooty factions who are like "Yes I know we need 2 cobalt but I am sorry I can't give you that contract, it is only for people who are Friendly with us and you are only Cordial."

But I sure as poo poo hope they didn't spend two years teasing this out with the UA and Barnacle threads to just to throw some poo poo to shoot as us.

I genuinely hope there's means to come to terms with them peacefully. Having this giant procedural "scientifically accurate" galaxy only to turn it into Mars Attacks would make me incredibly sad. I mean rationally you just don't have a shooting war with a species that's a few million years of evolution your senior.

The whole ideal of a conflict pissing over territory in a galaxy with resources that are for practical purposes infinite few a couple 'o billion years is just utterly ludicrous.

The whole situation is like if First Contact was conducted over twitter.

yeah developing an entire in depth game system of diplomacy and bureaucracy to negotiate with these aliens in this space shooter that has like 10 different missions that you repeat ad infinitum sure doesn't sound like the bizarre delusional mentality that led to star citizen earning $140 million for .jpgs of spaceships

How in the hell are you even supposed to find all this interesting Thargoid stuff? The game is so opaque. I've played the game enough to get a fully combat fitted and engineered python, but the community goals are mentioning resources I've never even heard of and have no idea how to acquire, and people are talking about fighting aliens that I've never seen and have no idea where to look for or how to encounter.

Do I really need to go trawling mountains of posts on forums and Reddit (ugh) just to be able to find the interesting stuff? Is it expected that I rely on the word of some unemployed 40-something who's played the game 12 hours a day, every day, for years? I just don't get it, and it's discouraging.

Elite's opaqueness was what I was complaining about with the "cute" patch notes, with such a huge playing area you absolutely have to give your players direction about where they might want to have a look to find the new cool poo poo. I also bet you Frontier were not expecting people to get to the point to killing the Thargs this fast.

To be fair, some of us think we're going to do #1 but write down a list of the 18 things they need to seek out to unlock the engineer to unlock the engineer that lowers the weight of our sensors, spend the rest of the night flying around randomly in VR without ever encountering the first item, then go to bed logged out in the 53rd USS that didn't have just the right proto alloy in it, firmly in the #2 demographic.

If there's so much space junk flying around there that I have a non-zero chance of randomly stumbling across what I am looking for in the virtually infinite vastness of space, logic tells us that therefore there must exist an infinite amount of what I am looking for to sparsely populate the infinite space. So why doesn't someone collect it like they do with biowaste and Micro-Weave Cooling Hoses? I mean we live in a golden age where Micro-Weave Cooling Hoses are in some of the stores in the galaxy (but we can't tell which!). I bet some time in the past you had to just fly around open space hoping for a Micro-Weave Cooling Hose to hit you in the windshield (spaceshield?) and someone finally said, "you know what? Why don't I start Micro-Weave Cooling Hoses Nobles and make so many Micro-Weave Cooling Hoses that they can be found in thousands of spaceports, where people buy them with their normal groceries of Water, Tea, and Nerve Gas".

Ah crap I just realized that Micro-Weave Cooling Hoses are something you can't buy. Well I am not going back and editing that paragraph because it was a joke anyway. :colbert:

And thank Glorb I have you guys so I can see all the things I didn't know were going on in the universe. A giant war against alien races?! GalNet: BD+49 2099 would like more Phosphorus. HIP 17732 has entered Expansion. That is all
