I like the Skaven ability to have reinforcements pop up in the middle of battle, but there are a few things I wish you could also do with it:

-Get a partial food refund for any of the extra ones you didn't use that battle, assuming you won the battle.

-Allow you to charge up multiple uses over time instead of having to wait for the full cooldown each time, so you can save up a whole bunch of them and have like 5 units of clanrats appear when things get really hairy.

Jesus, I allied Morathi and she's started settling all the territories I sacked behind me. She's turning into an absurd powerhouse while I have two lords ravaging the giant fat frog's lands. Which, incidentally, have had several really fun battles. One had what seemed like 10 different dinosaurs all crashing into my tighly packed line. All I'll say is thank god for shadow sorcery, because Okkam's Mindrazor overcast on my corps of Naggorond Black Guards shredded more bastilodons than they had any right to.

I went blue line (bonus slaves, reduced upkeep, lightning strike, and the capstones), maxed out Warleader, then spells. And yeah, his dragon is nuts. All of them are, really. I think I've built all my lords about the same: same blue line, red line maxes out Sheafmaster and at first it was the bleakspear bonus I can't remember, but all my later ones went for the slaughterlord instead and got the really nice reload speed buff. The ranged one is nice, but the one the melee lord gets is pretty nice in its own right too, unfortunately. I also don't really see too much use out of the ranged lord's crossbow but I might just be missing it.

Shadow is still the best magic choice imo, the buffs, debuffs, and attack spells are all great in it.

I couldn't get the big or whatever in high elves to resolve so I decided to abandon the boring traditional army of game learning and took lizards. I'm very good friends with the conquistadors and bopping rats and orc on the head. Watching a single unit of temple guard get healed and fight thousands of rats in a siege is great.

The ability is crazy strong as is, it doesn't need any buffs. It really actually needs to be nerfed on higher difficulty, given skaven artillery.

I imagine most things will be nerfed though, they always seem to release new stuff a little OP now, then bring them back down.

Pro skaven tip, starving your rats is crazy good.

like the death hag gets one of these three things
+20 charge, +10 leadership, fear

I normally take fear but man do I really want to take that third skill instead at times

I can confirm that dropping an overcast Comet of Cassadora, Ruination of Cities and Maz's vortex aoe bound spell on a tightly packed, Net of Amynok'ed army is as hilarious as it sounds. It basically deleted 6 or 7 entire units of Dreadspears/Bleakswords. Like straight up "Full health and leadership" to "1/4 health and routing" in ~8 seconds.

Krox have 3x the armor of Minotaurs, more leadership, but lower Melee Attack and Defense (~20 vs ~30 for each)

Great Weapon Minotaurs have slightly more damage across the board and the Kroxigars have an Anti Infantry bonus while the GW Minos have Anti Large. Kroxigars also have about half the charge bonus of Minotaurs.

The kicker is Kroxigars are actually cheaper, being only 1000 in mp, where even the cheapest minotaur variant is 1200. GW Minotaurs would probably beat and be cost-effective vs Kroxigars especially if they get the initial charge off well but cost 1500.

tldr: Kroxigars are more comfortable being bogged down in endless enemy infantry chaff while minotaurs are best charging into high value armored units and savaging them

This is a really helpful post. What are your feelings on Kroxigor and Temple Guards? It's the only remaining question I have after suvh a comprehensive post.

Temple guard are kind of a mixed bag. They are more heavily armored than your other sauruses but do less base damage and aren't affected by the saurus red line lord upgrades (theirs is paired up with the Kroxigors, actually) and the research technology to up their attack and defense is super deep in the tree. They are useful if you're fighting someone who deals in lots of heavy armor and/or large stuff (so mostly chaos and if you choose to feud with the brett colonies), but for my money I think I'd rather just have spear sauruses since I'm basically guaranteed to have the redline buff for them.

Kroxigors make excellent wrecking balls but by the time you get far enough into the game to unlock them, you also will have your big dinos at the ready, and they kind of get overshadowed.

I found a fun bug with the stegodon artillery. The skinks riding it throw javelins from up top in short range and melee, but if those skinks throw all their javelins in short ranged combat, the stegodon will no longer fire it's artillery gun outside of melee, even though it's listed as still having ammo. I didn't test if "hold fire' keeps the skinks from throwing, but it's something worth considering.

Also I'm :laffo: at mid-late game Krok Gar once all the -upkeep research and levelups start rolling in:

My cold one riders in that shot have like 22 upkeep. The reason the army's upkeep as a whole sucks is that my lord and all the heroes are riding their respective giant dinos. It's a neverending pain train and everyone is invited.

I got Krok Gar's final ability in his blue line before I called it for the night and now the Sauruses have 0 upkeep. Before too long I'll be king of the desert.

With the cost of armies, I feel like unifying your respective area takes a LONG time. I'm turn 150 and Ulthuan is pretty much 80% me and 20% dark elf. The issue is I've been power rank 12 ish most of the game and Dark Elf is 1 so I imagine they have about a billion more troops headed over now. Also they're ahead of me in the ritual stuff so I'm basically hosed.

The game is quite forgiving about giving you opportunities to stop the other factions from winning so don't worry too much about it.

Holy poo poo, the last stage of Malekith's ritual had the AI plop down SIX FULL STACKS OF SKAVEN right outside of Naggarond. The dreadlord I had sitting there with her stack ended up getting swarmed by three of them, and the other three hosed my economy up by eventually razing Hag Graef before I could get another army to reinforce (the other places were Ghrond and Kar Khrond or whatever it is, to the east, so they were there, and my other armies were bogged down in the south).

The siege at Naggarond was loving amazing. I had a fully upgraded Black Ark nearby to provide fire support, and a doomstack inside the city alongside the garrison, against almost 8000 Skaven. Long story short, they died a lot. It was amazing. :allears:

Oh, and Bladewind versus a clump of Skaven is just as satisfying as I knew it would be. Malekith got 602 kills during an ambush. It absolutely shreds poo poo.

This still applies to VH, right? Queek's game is tough enough as it is, having Skaven interventionist forces be total crap in auto-resolve and the AI getting a bonuses to ritual resource production doesn't help.

I don't care for how they handled the stacks that appear for rituals, but they do keep me on my toes I guess. I'm obviously not a fan of just straight up losing 4-5 settlements because I clicked a button but it's nice feeling slightly vulnerable for a couple turns while I get a full stack of Lothern Sea Guards ready.

This is how the ritual works.

If someone gets to stage 5, it takes 20 turns to complete. or 10, what ever.

If it completes, you have 5 turns to teleport an army to fight his army. You also get the other two races as allied armies.

The fight is up hill but you have to be really bad to lose this.

Once I saw this I just hosed off instead of worrying about ever doing rituals and I am now painting maps.
