good show. i liked peco and the competition parts and all the nene content. i liked the first season a bit more. this one seemed to move awfully quick and i didnt really come to understand momo. they introduced the third high school friend of aoba and nene for no real reason. give yun a center

I feel like this season wasn't quite as fun as season 1 was. It felt like they spent way less time actually doing stuff about the game, especially after that freaking episode with Aoba trying to win against Kou and just feeling she was leagues behind her. Like once Momo and Narucchi came in it kind of felt like everything reset to point 1 to let the new chars in? I dunno it just felt like there wasn't as much stuff this time for some reason. I liked it in the end but I dunno, these are just my thoughts after finishing the show last night.

Agreed, along with the old cast feeling like they didn't really develop much outside of the Aoba/Kou match and the few glimpses of Yun being less driven than the others and probably a bit too much Nene compared to the others.

I liked this season way more than the first one, which seemed to spend a lot of its time on fanservicey fluff. I went into season 2 expecting to keep being very lukewarm on the show, but it blew my expectations away completely and really came into its own as a workplace drama.

i don't know how you could say less stuff happened in this season when season 1 was literally just some people hanging out for a bit and occasionally some random tidbits about game development. like, i guess you could say season 1 spent more time on the game??? but it's not like that was ever even the most interesting part of the show, and season 1 didn't really have anything driving it in any interesting way. this season was less chill but like that's also why it was actually interesting and engaging

Even in that regard I'd say PECO was way more interesting and had way more of a unique personality to it than Faeries Story. Faeries Story always felt like a fairly generic Ys Souls sort of thing to me, whereas Peco has a lot of Aoba's weird, funny mix of cutsiness and sadism in it.

fairy's story was just a look at bog-standard game dev on a really safe sequel to a popular game, peco is cool because it's the show giving a look into the development of a weird original title and all the internal chaos it causes and what the people making it learn from it

Yeah in Season 1 they basically admitted when Aoba got there that Fairy's was basically done already. While it was useful as a backdrop to us getting to know the characters and meant the stakes weren't as 'high', it also meant there wasn't much to the game as a whole; it was mostly done, Aoba was just there to watch the progress and help a little bit here and there. It was cute and neat but there wasn't really a huge amount of seriousness on the focus of Fairy's. PECO starts at the concept art and we have 12 episodes of slowly making a game basically from scratch. Unlike season 1 we also aren't just looking at artists and then debugging; while the Motion stuff is light, we see the conceptualization of a game both from a visual and a mechanics standpoint, the drawing of key art and assets, the modeling of NPCs, the creation of mechanics and mini-games, etc. There is a larger cast because they're focusing on more of the game, and that means some characters may not always get spotlight and stuff. I liked both seasons a lot.

Both seasons are good, but I think season 2 was stronger in terms of finding aspects of almost every character that you can identify with, if maybe at the cost of being not as strong in the characters just goofing around together.

Haha I did say season 1 felt like it spent more time on the game yes. And I totally agree PECO sounded way interesting which I guess is maybe why I was kind of hoping to see them do more stuff in it there? I think maybe if Momo and Narucchi showed up an episode or two earlier it wouldn't feel like everything happening kinda paused halfway through? Like I said, I still liked the show just a bit less than the first season is all.

iunno why you feel like things paused halfway through when literally all the character drama stuff happened after they were introduced

yea obviously opinions and all but I just can't see how the point when it went from 'let's make a game haha so cute Aoba has a weird idea' to actual character development and conflict moments and all was when things paused. Like as soon as the new girls show up it goes from fun slice of life stuff to fun slice of life stuff where characters actually have to face their flaws and grow and all.

I loved Shirobako a lot and didn't find it depressing at all when it hit. The characters get worn down to the bone and work really hard get really stressed out, but the show always seemed to stress that things would work out okay because basically everyone involved was basically a decent person who cared about the end product and cared about their coworkers.
