i'm not saying it's "correct", but you can rewatch the OT (especially IV) with the reading that Obi is blatantly manipulative. He sells Luke a very romantic backstory re: his father/Clone Wars/the Jedi/the lightsaber, and even when he's telling Luke it's too dangerous to run back home it can almost seem a little stilted, as if he wants Luke to go back, see skeletons, and get galvanized. Obi doesn't take the fall to Vader unti he's sure that Luke is watching. He becomes more powerful than Vader can possibly imagine in death because now Luke has lost everyone he knows to Vader/the Empire.

That's why it's fun to see Luke call him out on Dagobah in ROTJ. Obi literally appears as a ghost, sits on a log, and starts POUTING. It's awesome. I'm not saying it's consistent or intended but I love the kooky trickster element on OT Kenobi

And then in the end both sides were destroyed entirely. Until Disney came along I guess.

The Jedi understood the prophecy correctly: bringing balance to the Force did take the form of killing all the Force users who embraced the Dark Side. They foolishly didn't realize that they would not be exempt.

I never really liked the prophecy angle in the prequels (it also barely comes up after Phantom except at the very end IIRC). It feels like kind of a plot device to get everyone hyped up but why not just have babby Anakin blow up a Hutt with his mind or something.

How would he then turn to the dark side of the force later on? You've lost your main character's whole arc.

I really like the bit where we see the rockets in the gunship rotated into firing position. It's a neat touch that punctuates the scene and says now we're shifting to war.

I think the Jedi wasting their time talking about ancient prophecies and stuff fits with the overall theme that they are completely blind to what's right in front of them. The prophecy doesn't matter at all, except insofar as they make it matter.

Yeah as much as I hate the prequels the Jedi being too aloof and elitist to see all of the things they're talking about maybe possibly happening via the force literally already happening right in front of them is pretty obvious.

Honestly, if nobody takes the risks of using new technology, the best way to use it will never be discovered.

This tangent about frame rates reminds me: I would genuinely like people to work with 48+ FPS again, since rapid camera movement in the kinds of really intense action scenes we can make these days hurts my brain. I don't know who might give that another go, though.

I also despise film buffs who think 24 FPS is somehow sacred or more real or more "filmic."

Oh yeah, the Hobbits looked great. I think the real sticking point is the lack of a home release format for 48+ fps more than anything, which means that once it's out of the cinema watching the movie is a degraded experience.

The bigger problem was that everything was filmed on green screen. CGI is never going to age as well as practical effects.

Each of the prequels used more practical effects than the entire original trilogy combined. In particular, the number of miniatures involved in the battle on Geonosis was enormous.
