Come the night before the finals, the guitarist has a literal come-to-Jesus turnaround which also requires giving up the devil's rock and roll. He will not play in the final the next day. Period. So they try to limp through with maybe a stand-in for him or the bass player tried to improvise, but of course it's all gone to poo poo. And the other band, Mudcrutch (?) wins the contract with Shelter Records practically by just showing up. And they change their name to Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, etc.

Just got out of an hour long gun control debate with my boss. He thinks no one should be able to own an assault rifle, I think there need to be stricter controls, and the other guy in our department repeated a bunch of gun nut myths but still thought something needs to change. At least no one was a real gun nut. Those conversations get really uncomfortable.

Like, unless this dude has a manifesto somewhere in which he rails against the evils of wore-it-once cowboy hats and and the pop-ification of country music..
