the new zealand summer will fully arrive and with it echi will get maybe remember honest smiles n' then reevaluate things for a bit

while that goes on, all life in the northern hemisphere will get back to its annual winter mitigant against cold grey souls e.g. folk will resume long nights of hard liquor until the sun starts showing again

can we still post about computer problems?

i wanna know if there is something you can run on windows that is better at serving files to a mac than native smb. coz it fuckin SUCKS and im forever having to reset the macs to make the see the server and etc etc..

like.. set up an ftp server? but i am doing this to stream video files mainly. so something that could work like that? anything at all??

smb works fine for that

ive been tolerating it working poorly for ages now. seems if you close the mac and open it, it "loses" the ability to connect to the network share, so needs to be reset.

its not "fine", unless inconsistency is what you mean by fine

ways I know its not fine: i resort to copying files to usb sticks because trying to get it work over the network sucks so much

Samba seems especially poo poo on SMB 3.x. Dunno if there is a way to force it to 2.x only client side but if you own the server you can change it there

i have a dell poweredge t30 at home booting freenas on a usb stick with uefi

whenever it reboots, it tells me "no bootable device found", but if i hit f1 to retry, it boots the usb stick just fine

how do i make it so that it does this automatically

It might be booting faster than the USB key can initialize and mount. Stick a powered hub in front of it or tell the system to always run the memory dial on standup to buy some time?

Maybe the USB is powered off at boot and only powers on at retry? Do any blinkenlights on the stick flash at boot?
