It wouldn't surprise me too much if the guy had hired a prostitute to his room beforehand and that was the person screaming warnings, but I wouldn't bet money on it. Doesn't suggest any kind of conspiracy either.

Doesn’t suggest any kind of conspiracy either. [/quote] I would kind of hope that if I were a prostitute that went to this room and saw enough stuff to convince me that this was about to go down and I should be screaming in the streets I would alert the hotel staff and maybe the police as soon as I left the room. Not just wander on down to the concert and maybe warn a couple of random people. That's just me, though.

Sure, but it's gonna be super lovely if it turns out that that's exactly what she did and got dismissed as being a crazy hooker. Like I said, no reason to believe it's true, please don't take this goofball theory seriously and post it as an article on freethoughtproject.

After each time they slap one together like a high-schooler who didn't do the reading writing his book report on the bus on the way to class, every single professional medical organization in the country issues a press release reading pretty much "how can anyone know this little about how healthcare works, this bill is a conflicting mess that will destroy the health care system for literally no reason, do not do this for the love of God"

Goddamn the alt-right is poo poo about that. The son of the guy my mom married just posted that it was sick that 'the far-left is glad this happened' So far he hasn't replied to my call of bullshit. The only possible way I could see something twisted is if people said "I hope we can at least get some decent gun control laws out of this"

A relative just shared something on Facebook about how the media is overhyping Vegas because there have been bigger mass shootings. Their example? Wounded Knee. "Americans are now claiming the Las Vegas shooting was the biggest in our history, what kind of citizens forget their own massacres? Wounded Knee was the largest mass shooting in U.S. history that left around 300 innocent men, women and children dead. Don't let the media trick you into forgetting about the Lakota victims of December 29, 1890." I think it'd be great to see this make lists of mass killings in the US, but the same people posting about it would be screaming about Are Troops if anyone actually did so. I posted that it's great we're including it now, and that I hope the medals issued to the soldiers that carried it out get revoked.

If we had Fox News in 1890 they'd be reporting that the Lakota were plotting a WMD they call "G.H.O.S.T. D.A.N.C.E." which is rumored to resurrect native ghosts through infernal magic and commit mass genocide against the White race.

Every news outlet always puts "in modern history" after that specifically because people like to deflect with historical genocides after every mass shooting. Another one of those "I only bring up issue X when I need to distract from issue Y", they don't actually care about Wounded Knee and of course we all think it was awful.

If you include African Americans / slaves then yeah there's a lot more mass murders too, specifically the bombing of black wall Street in the early 1900s: http://www.theroot.com/this-is-only-the-deadliest-shooting-in-u-s-history-bec-1819112938

ONE GUY, and they are conflating "Glad they are dead" with "Hope its this group hit (and implicitly not this other one)"

Yeah, the second half is hosed up, unfair, and a bad move. Somebody put me on the news so I as a filthy leftist can publicly condemn this sentiment, provided I can then explain that one reason it's unfair is because we know the majority of GOP voters agree with greater gun legislation of some kind and the only question is what form it should take.

My dad's a conservative in sort of an unthinking way - he voted for Trump just because he was the Republican, but it's starting to dawn on him that maybe that wasn't the best idea. The only thing he does seem to have strong opinions on is gun control. He hasn't been having a very happy week. This is the first time in a while that he hasn't been able to use his go-to rebuttal, "a good guy with a gun could have stopped this". With every other massacre, he relied on imagining A Hero showing up and popping the gunman in the head as soon as he reveals his evil intention. But this couldn't have even hypothetically happened in this case. It seems to have broken his brain a little bit; now that the Jack Bauer Defense is out, he's been alternating sharing articles blaming Democrats for politicizing the shooting, and conspiracy-friendly articles that are Just Asking Questions. Normally he isn't the type of person to post political things on Facebook, so this struck me as odd. But then I remember he's a card-carrying member of the NRA and then I get sad. Dr. Arbitrary posted:If we had Fox News in 1890 they'd be reporting that the Lakota were plotting a WMD they call "G.H.O.S.T. I still don't see how advocating for gun control is "politicizing" a tragedy which was perpetrated using guns. Like you're doing a loving root cause analysis and guns happened to be one of them.
|
# ? Oct 5, 2017 18:43 |

I mean, you're advocating for a political response to a tragic event, so you are forcing that event to exist within a political framework. The bigger issue is that people are primed to believe that political things are inherently distasteful, rather than a core function of democratic government.
|
# ? Oct 5, 2017 18:48 |

also by reducing gun control to a political issue, you don't have to talk about the real cost in terms of dead people. you can just abstractly wave away the price of freedom with thoughts and prayers. this is why they talk about abortion in terms of dead babies
