I think there may have been a lot more money flowing around the alt-right about six months ago but the default state for most of these guys is shoestring, and they're all extremely desperate to live out their own highly specific fantasies so the first thing they do when they get a little cash is try to facilitate that fantasy cernovich is the prototypical example of this, when he was just getting a following in the alt-right world he was living off alimony payments from his ex-wife, instead of focusing on using that stable financial foundation to build a lasting career (right-wing media or otherwise) he spun off into a self-indulgent imaginationland of crazy gorilla cum brain chemical fantasy nonsense same could be said for a lot of other guys in the movement milo is one of the most competent and grounded people in the alt-right

Looked at some of the reaction on the TRS forums / weev, etc. It's a mix of "I'm glad that sodomite is being annihilated mwaahaha hahaha!!!!"  to trying to run cover for him by saying his emails to Nazis (so they could ghostwrite his articles) is merely proof he's a good journalist. Milo reacting to being caught singing and dancing for a crowd of Nazis at a secret meeting of them shows he's at least smart enough to know where the optics are. Ultimately people don't care as much about the rigmarole of emails as they do about the Roman salutes.
