Having played Aberrant it definitely was much better when we went from being super heroes to just people with powers. The only PC super hero was a really put upon working man with a serious gambling problem who had to be a franchise hero to keep the Super Mafia from killing his family. Good times.

My mage chronicle that has forever been 'ready to start' now actually has people ready to play (still like in literal months though) but I have realised I feel like I have mis-considered an aspect of my game. I originally wanted my game to have the Seers been just recently driven out of the city of Melbourne, with the PCs awakening in the last days of the 'hot war', and as the game starts it's a time of rebuilding and crazy projects going on and so the players could be more free to pursue their own interests. Then I realised that there exists a giant building called Crown Entertainment Complex, housing Crown Casino, and it sits just across the river that divides the main city and poorer west side from the richer eastern side and a boulevard of tech companies and private schools. I may need to revise from 'Seers driven out' to 'Seers entrenched in their mighty fortress'.

I really like the looks of this stuff. They pared down a lot of attribute bullshit.

I'm glad that they moved more ~story-game-y~ in a lot of ways, but I'm pretty disappointed how feats of strength is still a weird prescriptive table with precise, static values that don't entirely make sense. (I can straight-up lift a two-ton car at 16, but I need 18 to flip an SUV?) The exhortation at the end of the description of feats of strength that it's "only a guide" is kind of flat when it's a 21-row table with very particular-sounding values. Other than that, it looks like a pretty great iteration on Story* system.

I guess their idea is that you can flip an SUV with a single one-handed shove or something. But yeah that table is silly and dumb.

I appreciate the Scale system in that preview for giving you a way to pretty quickly plot out relative power levels between "guy running" and "sports car" without having to go in incremental Movement Points or something with similarly absurd levels of granularity (like the uhhh STR table, come to think). The only thing that gives me pause right now is that Combat still getting a whole other chapter implies it'll still get a WoDly disproportionate amount of rules around it, unless it's just like "roll Close-Combat + Might to do one of these 400 things, or more; roll C-C + Finesse to do one of these other 400 things, or more" and then some rules for range bands and initiative.

I still wish that attributes and skills had materially different effects on rolls such that Int 5 Medicine 1 didn't provide the same doctoring power as Int 1 Medicine 5. Two kind of funny goofs/inconsistencies I noticed: * Someone with Academics 5 can know a lot of languages, but someone with Culture 5 can't * The paragraph about sainthood has a typo or something in it such that it reads "any Momentum spent out of the black pool to add dice results in bonus dice added"

Chernobyl Peace Prize posted:Yaaaaay To elaborate somewhat after clearing it with Neall - your combat roll is done like any other action, you spend attack action stunts on increasing your defence stat from its base value or inflicting injuries on your opponent. Weapons are enhancements to your attack roll, Armour is in two kinds, one of which absorbs injury conditions by damaging itself instead of you ("soft") and one of which increases the successes cost of injuries ("hard"). The Combat section of the book is a short list of actions (roll this for ranged attack, this for melee, etc) stunts (this many successes to injure them, this many successes to grapple them) and weapon/armour tables (a shotgun is this much enhancement, a bulletproof vest is this much soft armour.)

Alright, session over. They used a chained up and gagged Changeling as a key to open a Verge and enter the Shadow for the big finale. Once on the other side they reunited with their spirit mage friend who happened to already be there. He freaked out about the "fairy" hostage and made them release her. She's angry but per the promise she made to him, she won't directly seek retribution on the party. Next session: Final boss fight against The Hunt. They'll either all die or succeed in binding/killing/sending away this big spooky spirit. I'll miss these guys either way.

It's a little unfair because I cut out the part after where she clarified she was actually trying to figure out the werewolves' motivation for attacking them and I had to sort of spell out with a text message on one of their phones that they were out for revenge because the party killed another werewolf in their pack just a few in-game days ago.

So my local Hoppy shop had a garage sale this weekend where people bring old board games and stuff to sell at the store. I found a copy of Wraith the Oblivion for $2 dollars and I immediately picked it up because I've never seen a physical copy of Wraith. While I was paying for it at the counter one of the employees said they had a box of old white wolf stuff in the back if I wanted to browse through it. I said yes, but apparently its so far back in the building that only one guy knows where it is and he doesn't work on the weekends. So maybe I'll get lucky again and find something nice.

I really wish I'd found that because I just bought a PoD copy of Wraith and it's really bad. The quality of the scan is just terrible. I was extremely surprised because every other scanned PoD I've bought from White Wolf has been really good, to the point of being indistinguishable from the original or even better.
