I found XCOM 1 to be incredibly easy after XCOM 2, except the geoscape. And that was only because I forgot satellites existed. :v:

e: So can you just not get reapers on Gatecrasher unless you use the second wave option? It's been templars and skirmishers all twenty times I've tried.

I'm very bad at Gatecrasher and rookies are very bad at hitting flank shots

Just finished my first run of the expansion on Veteran/Ironman and that was a lot of fun, if probably a little easy for me. I was so reckless by the last third i kept throwing peopleredshirts away by accident. I didn't get anyone with completely insane training school combinations, besides my assault picking up Chain Shot and my Templar getting Bladestorm, but that was more than enough.

I'm really enjoying the Training Center. It's a fun combination of the XCOM1 training roulette, which I loved, and combined with the Covert Ops stuff gives me a really neat way to invest in my favourite Ken dolls. It's unbelievable how powerful stacking a few mobility bonuses is for certain classes, particularly Templar and Ranger.

Time to load up on cosmetics and go again!

The sound waves and "Wait a minute! I hear something guys!" cue is only directional after several turns of inactivity post concealment (and w/o a timer? never seen it when timed, I'm probably moving too fast and make it moot). I'm not sure if the pod has to move to trigger it, but it certainly doesn't have to be anywhere nearby. It's just the old cleanup mechanic from XCOM1 to help you hunt remote pods, not an actual warning of proximity.

Well, endless gatecrashing aside I'm actually getting better, which is satisfying. And the missions that aren't Gatecrasher are really fun, even if it deadends the campaign.

Gatecrasher's just a really tedious level. I should just install that one mod and be done with it. I've done it flawlessly a couple times now.

Before WotC came out I thought they should have made situational missions for like, missing the evac on a timed mission. If you can't evacuate from the LZ, you have to immediately do a follow up mission with those soldiers where you're forced into a strategic retreat through the sewers. Firaxis put in all the pieces with ambush missions, the lost, and the sewer map...so maybe I'll need to make a mod one of these days.

lol which rear end in a top hat at Firaxis decided that fighting four sectoids, five troopers, and 20 4 to 8 hp lost as your third mission was "Easy"? How can you possibly survive this? It was going okay at least until I missed six 80+ shots in a row, but since you can't use grenades you're screwed. I mean, I still 'won', but everyone's shot to gently caress and exhausted, so there's nothing for the next one.

e: Turns out it was alright! I saved all civvies somehow on the retaliation! No one got hurt! No one hit the Warlock so he extracted knowledge! Good enough for me :v: It's going to suck fighting him though. His weakness is groundling and his strength is the one that lets him heal when XCOM gets hurt, along with melee immunity.

I got a really lucky break with that one on my first legendary campaign where it was second or third; the flashbang stopped the guy from moving completely so it was free shots and then cleanup.

This campaign I got it month two but with the "the whole map is revealed" sitrep and I'm hoping I'm that lucky again.

I'm back into month 2 on this campaign and it's going ok; 1 dead rookie (drat you sectoid), but I got squad size 1 and except a grenadier who got beat to poo poo by lost everyone's healthy. I'm going to start mag weapons after resistance contacts but I think I screwed up taking a breakthrough first; improved pistols are great but only if you get to the point you're using them! I had to skip improved bullpups just to keep the tree going. I have 2 additional turns a timer as my resistance option which is pretty great as well.

I just can't shake the feeling that I'm about to gently caress it up immediately again like last time. I want a SPARK now just so I can put a rocket onto things, but I don't have any elerium or alloys anyway. The Warlock is going to be a huge problem with it basically not having weaknesses but on the plus side I'll get to actually play the Chosen Defense this time.

If I have to restart again I think I might go GTS, Inf, PG and then power and the ring later; with how badly people are missing and thus getting shot getting people back in the game might be a priority. Gatecrasher aside though it's a lot more fun than Commander.

yeah pretty much. Mox got captured on the first covert op I sent him on. A little while later the game gave me a covert op for another skirmisher, then immediately gave me an op for another one. A week later, the mission to rescue Mox came up and now I have 3.

The first skirmisher came in at Mox's rank with what appear to be the same random bonus skills (so far) and the 2nd came in at the the starting rank.
