There's a gunpla thread? And, I mean, this is for painting and modeling unspiration and I can think of few things less inspiring than pen drawing on a gunpla and sticking an anime girl head ontop of it. Have another one.

 I just wanna bitch about how boringly CAD this looks. Those "wings" are just bunch of Land Raider fronts mushed together. I think the grav plates could be spaced out more, too.

The story went that at the time GW had a strict all-painted WYSIWYG-converted rule for playtesting (which is a  by itself) so the dude just put some plasticard together, made a lovely skimmer of roughly the appropriate size and shape, and went to play. To his horror, the other guys thought it was an awesome design and made an actual mini of it.

They had come up with rules for the Raider, but no model existed. So as was said he threw together some plasticard and stuck some extra guns he had onto it. The studio guys thought it looked rad as gently caress and sent it to their sculptors as the basis for the real model. The later DE Raider looks pretty awesome and is a good improvement on the concept.
