Captainicus posted:That is pretty neat. I'm not sure when you would use applied knowledge on a non-warrior, as generally you want your warbeast / warjack to destroy your enemy, not hamper them but leave them alive, good for shooting heavies though, I suppose! Could also be very useful on budget heavies or against armor stacking though. Good stuff. When you're facing a warjack with a shield is the obvious one. Take the shield out in the first swing or two and finishing it off becomes a whole lot easier. There's also sniping out the arc node from bonejacks of course as it only takes 20 damage before ARM to column 4; give it to a charger and you can pretty reliably take the arc node off two bonejacks in a turn. Also there's the Bart, Bucaneer (or other set-up piece), hot-shotted Galleon combo. A melee heavy takes four boosted POW 13s from the gunports all to column 2 - which is almost certainly enough to wreck its movement system and leave it flailing. Then the Galleon uses its focus to do its normal drag and beat up trick on a second heavy.

Had a great game today with Exulon Thexus vs Grymkin - The dreamer. The new theme is legit awesome, having an extra unit of overlords essentially for free is HUGE, they do so much work. It was that scenario where you have one circle in the middle and two zones either side, both with objectives. I went first, and basically just played the scenario game with my drudges, got a surprising ambush off killing skin and moans early, (which also held him back from contesting well) and sprayed the zone clear on the other side with overlords. Jamming it all up with drudges meant my wreckers could hang back and basically counter-threat anything making an attempt on my caster, or anything too threatening getting into either zone. The game was entirely won, I was sitting on 4 points, and he couldn't have contested with very much at all and I had two full loaded wreckers within charge range of what little he could get into a zone, so I thought I'd go for the fun play (NEVER AGAIN) and try and win that turn by dominating. All I needed to do was kill a death-knell with a fully loaded, instigated wrecker. I was well beyond odds on, needing 5's to hit and then dice-1 for damage. With 5 attacks, that's around 30 damage (not even including the free charge dice), so 8 over. Instead what happened was I did it I think, 6 damage? So then I needed to charge it with my other wrecker, which obviously did the remaining 16 (or however much) on the first charge hit, lol. 3 Weaponmaster dwarve charges were not enough to put the Cage Rager in the ground, (only other contesting piece) so on my opponents turn he did some fandangling and got the Cage Rager next to Thexus. (Any warbeast next to a Cephalyx caster is GG). It was tilting, because its the 3rd game in a row where a wrecker has just completely failed to do anything at all despite buffs. In a previous game a similar situation arose where I neeeeded to kill a beast, that I was hitting on 4's and killing on anything buts, and didn't kill him. In retrospect I should have boosted the to-hit roll, but I got 'greedy' wanting to hold onto focus so that I could beat back into something tougher behind him and got a bit tunnel visioned on that plan. But, you know, 'fail better'. What I've got to take from this is to ABSOLUTELY deny any beast being next to Thexus (or Cyphon) AT ANY cost. Kill box? Don't give a poo poo take your free points. Out of range to allocate focus to monstrosities? gently caress it, punch them. Not going to get a relevant feat off? I don't have a feat, deal with it. I kind of have to play almost as if having my caster be able to do stuff is like a happy bonus that might sometimes come up, but generally doesn't. It's what happens in every single Cephalyx battle report I've seen, I should know better by now. !Klams fucked around with this message at 02:51 on Oct 13, 2017 |

Hosting my first 24 man team tournament today. Preparations have been hell. I ordered custom tokens as prizes, they arrived only hours before the tournament... but at least they did arrive. One of the mats I ordered was butt-ugly, and when I returned it the package got lost for a couple days, only to arrive back at my doorstep. Worst of all - two weeks before, I started contacting one of the guys who hosts a large Team Tournament around here and asked him for his swank Scoresheets, which he agreed to make for me, then didn't deliver. I now got up at 6am after going to bed at 2 to make those drat sheets myself. I'm tired, cranky and looking forward to two hours of setting up tables. And one guy who never hosted an event before has the gall to critizise me for a minor loving thing (I pre-ordered most of the food and he hadn't bothered to put in his order, which is now my fault... even though I explained that I would order whatever hasn't been preordered on the day by phone). Still, going to be awesome, I haven't had a single team drop out! Team Tournaments are the best.

Had a mini steamroller yesterday and did fairly bad going 1-2. The win was fairly epic though. Nemo 3 into one of the Doomshapers running all the Beasts. Top of 2 I force Hammered an Earthborn troll(he hadn't put his animus up) over his entire stone unit and Doomshaper, knocking out the stone aura and leaving Doomie knocked down on no camp in range of Dynamo, Thunderhead and 2 Storm Striders. I Feated and only needed Dynamo to kill him. The other 2 games were just terrible and I made bad decisions leading to fairly trivial wins for my opponents.

I went 1-3 at a steamroller in Calgary. Played Carver in Thornfall and Rask in WWFF. I made some bad calls and some poor dice led me to where I was. Thankfully since people dropped I ended up getting $25 in prize money for being last place, so my pride salved with cash. Also READ YOUR CARDS! I honestly had no idea that Skarath and Snapjaw both had bonds and that would have helped immensely.

SNAPJAW HAS A BOND? For content: took Tim Banky's Aiakos2 build for a spin. That Kharbdys really has gross assassination potential. The whole list is set up to deliver and he puts a hurting on at strange angles. No scenerio presence at all, but who needs it when Dr. Tickles comes roaring in from some ungodly distance away. It brings 3 white squalls to clear a path and, ideally, knock down the opposing warnoun. Blood Witches have been pretty ok since the gang fix. They want support from debuffs but between their blood razor attacks, gang, native stealth, and crit kd they can serve a lot of utility. Pathfinder, ambush, and debuffs really dial them up. I have wiped entire units off the table with death strikes. They were critically overshadowed by the raiders, but they are incredibly important roleplayers in the scourge list. It still probably needs a few more releases but I don't have many games with it yet. lokipunk fucked around with this message at 09:04 on Oct 18, 2017 |

Company of Iron is more like Shadow War: Armageddon where it's a small squad of otherwise normal units. Shadespire is on a pretty small hex grid board rather than free movement with terrain. Mantic is also getting in on the action with Vanguard as companion to Kings of War, but they're going the KS route so don't expect to see it for another year.

Looks like the new huge based models will be direct order only with free shipping on pre orders. http://privateerpress.com/community/privateer-insider/insider-10-20-2017 They confirmed on facebook that's free international shipping but only if you pre order. This worries me a little as if I miss the pre order window and want to pick up one if these models at a later date, I'm going to have to pay a fortune to get one shipped to Australia. This looks bad to me.

I'm not crazy about it, but it's at least some kind of solution to producing large, expensive, and niche models that retailers will likely be reluctant to stock. Unless they start retiring models, which clearly they seem to have no interest in doing, eventually you have to address the problem of retail space.

I don't really mind a direct order system in principle. With free shipping after currency calculation the Dracodile isn't that much more expensive than what I'd pay for a Stormwall/Hurricane kit from my FLGS here in Aus. It's once the free shipping period has ended that worries me. Unless they work some wizardry for international shipping it'll price me out of the market.
