My guess is that he wants to turn her into a fish so he can have somebody to talk to about how sad and lonely he is in Atlantis and how none of the salmon appreciate his collection of antique forks. About the third time he breaks into a little mermaid styled musical number, Laura is like 'can we just gently caress yet?' and then Rikuo starts crying and has to send her back to the topside because she said a swear.

Because people here primarily read good comics, I am not sure if everyone will realize the riff on actual Garfield strips. The first one is based on the actual first Garfield strip in 1978:  Not positive about the others, although I think at least the third one is also a Garfield strip.

Jim Davis is actually a good cartoonist. Garfield was designed to succeed with a minimum of effort on his part and it shows, but sometimes he accidentally pushes himself.
