Edit:
Two inspiring recruits can pull off 3 stress instead of 1 for the same reason why 2 Recon Specialist crew on the same ship only gets you 3 focus when you take a focus action

That is THE BEST THING EVER! I've been playing with my five year old using the starter rules and the excitement he has at getting to move Luke Skywalker around (he has seen zero Star Wars movies).

Looking forward to blowing his mind and letting him play Poe in Black One if I ever pickup Heroes of the Resistance.

That being said his only loss was when we used the FA set instead of the original core. I'm thinking Luke is OP.

Most of the T-65 pilots (I would argue all) have good abilities but are hamstrung by the godawful T-65 itself, as well as the growing power creep.

Scum and Villainy podcast just did an interview with designers Max, Alex and Frank.

They ask about design decisions, why they choose to nerf things, how they address balance, and the design cycle.
Some highlights:

When asked why they've left the poor T-65 and TIE fighter behind, they responded that the X-Wing was always pretty crappy. Even from the beginning in Wave 1, "the only reason it saw early success was that people hadn't figured out it's a better idea to put 7 or 8 TIE fighters on the table".

Costing things, they said there's not a good formula for costing a ship, because the table presence/interactions are a big X factor that they have a lot of discretion on but can't accurately predict.

They admit that the power of cloaking/decloaking at PS9 with Whisper didn't seem as powerful when they were testing it as it ended up being. They talked about how their decision to errata/balance things is based on both whether something is overpowered, and also how it fits into design intentions and core mechanics of what they want the game to be. Cloaking as it was sorta screwed that up, because ships at PS9 and below moving first allowed the Phantom to pull the ripcord and escape by decloaking. This took away the guessing game function of trying to predict maneuvers.

Talked about bombs, how they went from a useless mechanic that nobody used to something that everyone uses and now is mad about. And also how they like to wait and see how things shake out, especially with new releases coming down the pipe. Players whined about getting a Palpatine nerf, and now are whining about un-nerfing it.

When asked if Harpoon Missiles were going to totally remove TIE swarms, they responded that assault missiles already exist, and they're not the reason why TIE swarms aren't around anymore. If it's already out of the meta, why does it matter if a new upgrade kills it even more?

Another point was that they developed/costed Kylo Ren when there were no successful 2 ship builds (~18 months before release). Seeing what an impact Kylo Ren on VI RAC has on the current 2 ships builds, they said they may have priced it differently or worded it differently, and didn't expect the negative reaction they got.

They asked about modeling the game in machine learning/AI models to work out balance stuff. Devs asked how much it would cost, and didn't sound interested.

They said that 4 ship rebels/Lowhhrick/Biggs is on their watchlist, and that nobody had come up with the 4 ship list in testing. They were pretty sure that the Wookie Gunship was going to be a dud and totally suck due to no K-turn and no stop, so they costed it aggressively for the statline.

Honestly, I believe the playtest team works these things out. I just don't believe the designers listen.

I also believe that some playtesters have pet hates that the designers have grown tired f hearing about, which might be why...

Yeah Biggs is mentioned in the original Auzituck article (https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2017/6/9/defenders-of-kashyyyk/). My guess is they thought of Low/Biggs/Rex, but didn't consider a 4th ship with DTF somehow.

This. I haven't listen to it myself, but if the account of what was said is accurate, what the gently caress?

This is my first tabletop game so I am an idiot, but it seems crazy that they would realize something would be a dud and not give a poo poo.

That is some malarkey right there. Heaver is a tester and a couple of days after release he flew that list at a store championships. Either FFG is lying or the testers are not reporting stuff they want to run. Heck in a podcast right before release he said the Wookiee gunship was the only thing he was getting on day 1.

In other news the stores have been selected for the Australian regionals. Hall of Hero's has the NSW regional. Don't know about the other states. Would be shocked if ThreeD6 did not have the ACT regional.

I honestly think the playtesters are being ignored or withholding poo poo, neither of which we can prove but both are pretty bad.

I think I love this game despite the developers being bad at their jobs.

I think they do care for the game, but they want it to keep making money via new ships and abilities. If the game had Wave 1 ships and upgrades still doing well and winning tournaments, it's a possibility players wouldn't buy new stuff as much. Sure, there's those that want to buy the ships for the sake that they look cool or do something different, but the company needs to make money and look like they're doing something.

The way I've viewed X-Wing is a lot like auto racing. NASCAR cars and F1 cars on the same track is completely different from each other, and maybe F1 cars would completely dominate against nascar cars. But when you create a series with specific rules, then those cars within the series can compete.

100 point matchups without any other restrictions and of course you'll see lists that are designed to win as best as possible. Sadly, the X-Wing barring Biggs isn't going to see table time because it can't perform well against the newer ships, but in certain series it can do well against others.

Basically 100 point tournaments are the equivalent of letting anyone bring any sort of race car to a track without any limitations and complaining that a super car is dominating a minivan.
