So if you manually install nvidia drivers now, you get ansel along with them. There isn't an opt out. There is, however, an opt-out for the geforce experience, which is where the toggle to turn off ansel lives.

I ended up with an impossible-to-disable ansel a few weeks ago and had to hunt down and kill the exe

Game mode does other stuff like suppressing AV sig updates or background installation/staging of windows updates which could make your game go lovely and you should just leave it alone

does game mode just use a list of process names because some older games don't trigger game mode at all, even when you put them in fullscreen

it also does suppress work of other background software, which can interfere with receiving email or message notifications or host of other stuff

Yeah it explicitly knows what games to turn it on for if they have been written for it but I think you can hit Win+G for the game bar to force a game to use it

if it is tied to game bar now then yes because game bar is tied to microsoft-whitelisted processes

also with the fall creators update, it looks like instead of breaking the updates into skus (Feature update to Windows 10 Education N, version xxxx; Feature update to Windows 10 Education, version xxxx; Feature update to Windows 10 Enterprise N, version xxxx; Feature update to Windows 10 Enterprise, version xxxx; etc.) it's just one update for all skus. still different versions for each language though

it also looks like it's been made available to windows 10 enterprise without having to go through wsus

i said you can get the windows 10 feature update version 1709, aka windows 10 fall creators update, for windows 10 enterprise without having to go through wsus

Shaggar

I guess it was to prevent users from installing the update without getting approval via wsus but then they realized how few people properly maintain wsus so they just published it to everyone.

that plus since it's not a per-sku update anymore they wouldn't be able to restrict the enterprise sku from getting it

im thinking it's checking for a some kind of special internal system account whose name is dynamic but contains "user" & then it tries to match the remaining part of the name with some stuff in a non-logarithmic search

lol pretty far fetched but eh

I got the fall update last week and it has been pretty good so far. The only real negative was it resetting a bunch of settings but at the same time it also fixed my audio drivers so I can't really complain

this is the most obnoxious loving thing with the major feature updates. there is literally no reason to do this except to push users into using features/services they already explicitly opted out of.
