You can do this with literally every PG in the league, but generally if you score within two dribbles of a pass it will be scored as an assist. There is some differences depending on the scorers, but both of those plays would probably be scored that way most of the time.

Which is ridiculous.

My favourite part is that during the dark Bargnani years, it's kinda impossible to convey just how much this ad was shown. It was on pretty much ever commercial break during the game, possibly multiple times. It's an immediately iconic signifier to Canadian fans of some notoriously bad basketball.

When I was 17, my father was so stupid, I didn't want to be seen with him in public. When I was 24, I was amazed at how much the old man had learned in just 7 years.
The Suns being mad about Bledsoe's loyalty is funny considering how he's on the poster of franchises treating their good players like garbage.

I like Bledsoe but he's about to turn 28, has a knee that has to get scoped every year, and only 2 years left on his deal. Plus Cleveland would have to move Thompson in the deal to make it work. If I'm Cleveland, I'd need something else like Chriss to make it even. And I don't know why Phoenix would be interested in moving him if they're rebuilding.

I think it was Haslem who got suspended for doing it in a playoff game years ago.

It's his second time and the league is probably getting tired of it. If anything Curry is lucky because most players would have been suspended for that.

Probably thinking of this classic. "gently caress it. He's getting a shitload of assists."

The Abdur-Rahim blocks may be even better. Exactly 81 games played both home and away over two seasons and he had 113 blocks at home vs. 42 on the road.

Also the Clippers were grossly deflating stats to suppress player value, but I'm sure that's not much of a surprise.

Kanter threw it in the stands if I remember and Cousins accidentally spit it at the opponent bench when he was trash talking. I don't remember the one from Curry last year but this year he threw it at a ref which is usually a no-no (if you're not a star). This was the Haslem one I remembered. Was the playoffs.

Chris Paul era Hornets were also really lenient. They'd inflate the other team's PG too, but they'd give Paul assists for "hockey assists", 3 and 4 dribble post-ups, transition baskets where he'd give the guy the ball in the backcourt... all sorts of stuff like that. If I remember, it was like almost 3 assist different home vs away for him one year.

Assist how its defined is really arbitrary. I'm not sure I have a better system but isolating Lonzo on those plays is like isolating a offensive lineman for not getting called for holding. It happens every game.

This would work but would cost Cleveland a couple million in tax

I think they want to get rid of Shump anyway. I agree it wouldn't be a "fair" trade but Cleveland may not get opportunities to add another difference maker this season. Bledsoe's injury history is probably a good reason not to do it though.

Article shoulda cut this Stockton swipe:

quote:

Alex quickly found that a scorekeeper is given broad discretion over two categories: assists and blocks (steals and rebounds are also open to some interpretation, though not a lot). "In the NBA, an assist is a pass leading directly to a basket," he says. "That's inherently subjective. What does that really mean in practice? The definition is massively variable according to who you talk to. The Jazz guys were pretty open about their liberalities. ... John Stockton averaged 10 assists. Is that legit? It's legit because they entered it. If he's another guy, would he get 10? Probably not."
Over the course of his 18 year, 1500 game career, John Stockton averaged 10.9 assists per game at home and 10.1 at home.

He was one of the greatest players of all time, sorry folks.
