If you take the lady in SH4 to see her own giant twitching face doesn't she just say "huh that's creepy :geno:". Characters in those games have very mundane reactions to weird poo poo.

It's even better, she has absolutely no comment on it whatsoever, and even Henry is just like "what is this doing here"

Nothing has ever happened here, nothing.
Finished Red Dead Redemption. Enjoyed the game, but I'm excited for the sequel as mission variety got boring and samey very quickly. Ride along with someone while yelling at each other, shoot some things, ride back.

I really like the whole series (including the bad games) but Silent Hill 4 is one of my favorites despite not being that great, because it's one of the few that's willing to make you feel like total poo poo for playing badly and not care what you think about it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8NKStRPatXQ

The sheer amount of effort they put into possessed Eileen on the off-chance that the player isn't going to keep her in top shape at all times is just nuts. Under normal circumstances, none of these notes are legible and only the ones you physically pick up can be read via Henry's method of sliding them under the door to his apartment. Keep watching after that and you'll see some cutscenes they totally remade to really let you know you hosed up by letting Eileen get to the state she's in.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qa3pEFP2v9Q

She also will chant ominously and damage Henry at random.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVylvJwlzC4

She also also will smack her broken arm, which will damage her.

edit: The only way to get her out of this state is to use rare healing candles that are also used to get rid of hauntings in your apartment, under normal circumstances Eileen can't die but because of the possession she stops helping you in combat and will actively hurt you instead. And like, this is not "oh you neglected to heal her and now she's all messed up", this is "you actively treated her like poo poo and now you're paying for it buddy" territory.

I just really like that how much you care about playing well reflects the tone of the game. If you keep Henry's apartment clear of hauntings, pin the ghosts or disable them so they don't bother you, and keep Eileen healed and un-possessed, the game's tone reflects the usual ambient mystery transitioning into a hell descent that the Silent Hill games usually have. But there's a little bit of hope there because you know your goal (get the hell out of Ashfield) and for most of the story you know how to accomplish it (defeat Walter and stop his ritual), and that's way more than the games usually give you to go on.

But if you don't do all that, the game just gets relentlessly depressing and brutal and it really gets across this sense of total misery that even the crappier SH games are really good at giving you. And like I said, it's not even that easy to get it in that state, you have to actively not do what the game tells you to and your result is that the game hates your frickin guts.

So hey y'all... Destiny 2 is really good.

It's like the Division if everyone looked much cooler and when you punch someone, instead of doing 10% damage and they barely flinch, they explode and you steal their life force. (Looking back I can't believe I played The Division)

But now unfortunately it looks like this game is gonna occupy my FPS slot for a while so I will have to put off Wolfenstein 2

An FPS with loot will always feel weird because the purpose of items is to visually express your own vanity at all times. That moment in Diablo 1 when I took off my lovely starting armor and equipped Breastplate of Valor with 12 affixes of stat porn was a seminal gaming moment for me.

You get to look at your character every time you go to the inventory screen or emote.

Also Destiny is getting its lore hooks in me, I care more about looking at every new piece of loot than I can remember in any other lootgame because of the flavor text. (The actual story is whatever though)

I played the Destiny 2 beta and didn't think much of it, but then again I haven't really played many FPS since the Quake 3 Arena + Unreal Tournament era. In 2016 I enjoyed both DOOM and Overwatch but that was kind of a fluke year.

Mark Estdale, an industry veteran, looked back on his work on the localization of the game in an interview with GameCulture. He stated, "I read the script. It was awful, translated to English from Japanese by Italians so I suggested rewriting the English to match the stylized Japanese, or making it into an acted comedy or to scrap the whole thing. I was told the script was perfect and couldn’t be changed and that we must do it with seriousness. We squirmed and the actors wept. When the game finally came out we discovered amongst many painfully awful mistranslations that the hand bomb throwing device was a grenade launcher and the whorehouse key level was actually a warehouse."
