Most people just don't have the Maker mentality. I look at stuff all the time and realize that I could do that. I don't get the impostor syndrome as much because several people I associate with are Makers, members of the local Maker Space, etc. My dad was a machinist before getting his engineering degree (which apparently makes him rare among engineers, LOL), and his brother is still a machinist, so I've basically got a background in fixing and building stuff from the get-go. Dad has a 9" lathe and a Bridgeport mill, and has had various welders and fab tools since I could remember.

I almost get the opposite effect: how could you *not* make or fix that thing? It's so easy!

That's kinda where I'm at though - "why should I expect anyone to be willing to pay for what I can do?! Everyone can do this stuff!" Meanwhile (for one example) I look at the list of people I'd trust to build a better 13B than I'd do myself, and it's barely over one hand nationwide.

I like the Switch very much, Zelda is amazing. :swoon: I do mostly console but having it on the couch while wife watches something is swell. Mario is sitting at home already waiting for me but I'll probably wait to play it later. Stardew Valley is too addicting at the moment (playing on PC, admittedly). Golf Story was awesome as well.

Oh hey Switch owner. Do you find you use it more on your tv or as a handheld?

I find myself exclusively handheld when it comes to Zelda. It is really convenient to just start/stop right when you want. I use the TV when playing Mariokart with the kids. Handheld is good because I play it at night when the kids are in bed and the wife is sleeping. It is also good because then the battery dies and if I had it plugged in I fear I would never go to sleep because "just one more side quest, just one more shrine que...SHINY THING IN THE DISTAAAAAANCE". I have never been a huge gaming nerd, not even a small gaming nerd but Zelda is the dopest game I have ever played.

I don't know how nor do I have the time or desire to learn how.

I'd rather just buy it, all Nintendo has to do is loving make enough so people aren't scalping them.

[e] or I could just buy a N64, but I'd be out almost $150 with one game. Mario Kart alone is 50 to 60 bucks.

Tons of great games on that system, it was pretty solid. I still have mine and all of my games even after selling pretty much every system pre and post.

64 is still the best but I played a lot of 7 on my 3DS while sitting in the Minneapolis airport recently and it's pretty fun. The rubber-banding isn't bad and I only got hosed by a blue shell a couple times.

Got Mario Odyssey on order already, how's the Mario and Rabbids game? Is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe any different than the one on the Wii U?

I've heard nothing but good about Mario and Rabid's, but haven't picked it up yet. MK8 Deluxe has a few bells and whistles (new characters, vehicles, items) but nothing game-changing. That being said, I bought it anyways becausae LOLSWITCHCOMMERCIALS and I've legit played MK with friends drinking beer around a bonfire with the goddamn thing and gently caress you Nintendo is/was/willalwaysbe the best Console company.

As far as the maker mentality I feel like I can design and make a lot. The main quiestion for me, is it worth my time and effort. And in most cases I find it’s better to just buy what I need. But I love having access to a lathe. Lost a barrel adjuster nut for my bike and wanted to ride after work, so just cut a new one over lunch at work.

Reminds me I need to try my hand at that. The S5 13B I have has no compression thanks to the previous owner letting it sit without oiling it and covering all the ports. It spins fine, but the apex seals are all stuck retracted. I was hoping to not have to open it up, but ATF isn't doing the trick to dissolve the carbon.
I've not rebuilt an engine personally, but I think I can handle it. I've got a couple of the video series on rebuilding rotaries.

A whole world opens up when you can make your own tools and parts. That's why I think 3D printers are important. I need to get one - I already have a few things I could fix with parts made on it.

I haven't owned a suit in 20+ years. I did up the buttons because I've lost all that weight and I can do up the buttons.

I love the blue but it just doesn't work with the theme. I am hoping to make a deal so I can keep this one as well as the replacement.

Edit: this was bought from an Ebay custom suit vendor. Prior to this we looked at rentals and buying cheap suits and the best price we could find for a 3 piece in blue was $240 for the rental and $310 for a cheap JCPenny option. This was $109. I sent them an email asking if I can keep this suit for a discounted rate when we buy the groomsmen suits.
