Atilla wasn't very good. Warhammer was very good. Warhammer 2 is not very good. Warhammer 3 will be good (I don't believe this but it fits the mold) For the Warhammer fans just joining us, welcome to the Total War Cycle.

Argh, having a huge problem trying to select what I wanna play in ME. I'm a huge fan of VC but just finished a long TW1 campaign with them some weeks ago so not really up for the repetition right now. Skaven sort of somehow seem funny but not sure I like their gameplay. I don't like to micromanage ranged units all that much. I was thinking of trying dwarfs for the first time. Was wondering though, how do they combat corruption? In the first province I don't see a single building option that would reduce it or increase untainted.

If you want a WH2 skill revamp for the Old Worlders in the meantime, might I recommend this mod? http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1181665600&searchtext= It's the same Dwarf skill revamp I posted earlier, with the summonable Miners, except duder has now given every other race a helping hand. Playing Fay Enchantress in Mortal Empires, Carcassonne remains a weird rear end starting location with nothing going on except the forced greenskin incursion event for the first 20 turns of the game. I like the play style of the Bretons with Enchantress as LL but man this is such a weird campaign at the start, maybe things will get better once I start confederating.

Did they make the AI more reactive to siege weapon shots? Playing as the Dwarfs (Thorgrim start of course), I've managed to take black orcs out of the fight until the battle is won because they were too busy trying to dodge the grudge thrower that is aiming at them (which doesn't work that well anyways). In one battle, the Black Crag garrison was paralyzed because most of its melee cards were too busy trying to dodge which only resulted in my grudge throwers killing by collateral damage anyways.

I'm pretty new to Total War but this game looked really cool so I picked it up. It's fun so far, but I really really suck; any advice goons? I'm playing as Queek's Skaven and doing... sorta okay? About turn 20ish at this point, I still have my starting units, a fuckton of shield clanrats and some Plagueclaw catapults but the elves are a serious problem. Also, food is a huge issue, I'm losing about two a turn and afraid of colonizing more poo poo without a way to get a consistent food source. I've been fighting enough battles that I'm more or less stable but any turn I don't fight I start losing food again right away. Is there a good solution I'm missing?

All the factions are fairly unique, but imo Skaven are difficult if you aren't familiar with the basic mechanics of the game. Skaven require rapid expansion, you can't turtle with them. That, their economy, and balancing the food/corruption balance makes them very unfriendly for beginners. I would honestly endorse trying any of the other 3 TWII factions to get your feet wet.

You can raid your own territory for food which causes a rebellion which you can then harvest for food. Had my first loyalty issue tonight. I recruited a warlord and at the end of turn had two events with + or - loyalty choices, and went full gently caress you new guy you can't make demands like this, get in the bin.

This would explain why my stupidly-overloaded-on-artillery Skaven army composition would dominate the poo poo out of enemy stacks. 8 batteries dumping constantly would drive the enemy AI haywire.

This new map is so cool. Spent about an hour pondering who to play as first as ive only finished campaigns with Dwarves, Greenskins and VC so far. Decided on Empire in the end, who unlike the others Ive played don't really seem to have a weakness? Decent ranged, infantry, really nice cavalry and according to the intro cinematic thing I will get access to some wizards and scary looking artillery pieces later.

For Queek I have decided to just rush for Eight Peaks. Slaughtering and buring my way through while upgrading my forces to defeat the mutinous gits. Ignoring Kroqgar smashing my old home as he makes a good distraction for other Undead and Orc who could have been bothering me. Eight Peaks is a better homebase anyway.

If the enemy has a strong melee infantry core, you'll have your guns/magic/cavalry to break them with while your own melee infantry tanks; stuff like that.

Teclis's ME start sucks even more than his old one. The Vampire Coast provinces which are your initial expansion route are all vampire corrupted out the rear end so it's impossible to hold them without a million rebellions, which wouldn't ordinarily be a problem except your natural expansion route requires you to declare war on Clan Eshin as well, so they will be sending constant harassment stacks your way while you try to finish pacifying the vampires and dealing with the 4-5 rebellions you'll have before that's over. That's assuming Skrolk doesn't join in on the dogpile too. It's trivially easy to beat up the Vampire Coast with high elves and early skaven stacks are also a joke, but your stack can only be in so many places at once. I'm just going to say gently caress it and sail to Ulthuan.

Then Shogun 2 was amazing. Rome 2 was a mess at start but received very good post-launch support and is actually a pretty decent game nowadays, there's even some mods that make it great imo if you like historical stuff. I had alot of fun with Attila and really like the time period and never really appreciated why so many people seem to hate it (the spearmen in brown rags stuff is a stupid simplification). Warhammer 1 was very good and received excellent post-launch support and expansion. Warhammer 2 only suffers somewhat because it had not been polished as much yet with additional content, but I have no idea where you go about calling it not very good. An army of basic swords, a few halberds and spearman with shields, a few archers and five mortars sure was fun to run into thing. Pretty much continuous screeching as the mortars pound the battlefield. Sure I lost that cheap stack to a chaos stack with their much better troops but I'll take a valiant defeat and a tattered chaos army as a result.

Cancelling the Greenskin event is kind of a trap choice. It's better to ride it out, maximising your settlement's unhappiness to start (and then kill) a revolt every single turn. This will give your starting force a tonne of XP, and heaps of chivalry, esp if you beelined the tech that rewards you for beating orcs. Of course, ~optimal play~ might not necessarily be fun for you, in which case you might be better off trying a different leader or faction.

It is amazing how fun it is to fight skaven when you are defending a settlement. There is nothing quite like the feeling of knowing that you have butchered thousands already but they are going to keep on coming. My highlight of the most recent siege was having a max level scar veteran on carnosaur tear apart a doomwheel that came on the field towards the end (I was fighting four stacks so not everything was able to fit on the battlefield at once) before tearing apart another whilst being hosed down by warp-throwers. Despite being almost dead and rampaging he survived the second doomwheel and came tearing after the warp-throwers who promptly decided to book it not that it helped them or anything.

Try playing the game in Windowed mode instead of Fullscreen. I don't know if it's possible to stop the Steam overlay somehow (Shift+Tab) but that might be what gives you the black screen. Is your monitor and the game in the same resolution?

My Wood Elf campaign got going and the presence of Skavenblight really changed things up. Poor Estalia never got off the ground as a tide of rats swept over them, which actually gave Carcassonne room to grow and start pushing back into the approaching horde of Skaven. While that happened Orion nipped down just past Tilea and swooped Skavenblight out from under them (and managed to get back home in time to fend off Malagor). Back in the day Estalia would usually contain the Enchantress' armies and sometimes destroy her wholesale, but now it's an all new rat game. Also Tyrion was really not happy to see his deranged cousins once I hit Bretonnia's coastlines. Bit rude. Wood Elves still only need to do their usual tree-building and defending stuff to win the game, but the fourth stage of World Tree upgrading requires about 35 amber. I don't think it was that much last time but hooooly crap I'm going to have to make more friends, trick them into letting me fight their wars with them, and then take over all their enemy's territories so I get ALL THE TREE SAP because the final stage is probably going to be nuts.
