The formatting of the first book makes it such a slog. The fonts are like the least readable ones I've ever seen in a book.

Why? It's a collaborative process. Without Frost there is no Twin Peaks. It's super lovely when people think Lynch just does it all himself, ignoring all the good, crucial work of Frost.

It's a weird situation. Without Lynch, Twin Peaks would be terrible. The entire Jacques Tati Dougie setup is clearly his thing, and so are all of the surreal horrifying things. You can even trace them back to some of his art. What exactly is Frost's contribution, though? People used to say, Frost kept Lynch grounded, but this season isn't even slightly grounded. Season three barely had a proper investigation in it. Is he just responsible for the Tulpas, numerology and sex magick?

Outside Frost and Lynch, I don't think anyone has any real idea about the division of writing for the series. Lynch is responsible for the visual aspects of the show, but the story, the characters and the mythology could have come from either or both of them. I think most people, for instance, identify episode 8 with Lynch, but I think it fits very well with what Frost was doing in the Secret History.

Frost wasn't involved in FWWM at all, so I would argue that the mythology aspect is probably Lynch's creation, unless you consider the dubious connections to the occult or numerology or whatever part of the mythology. Not to say that Lynch didn't build on things that Frost conceived (or that Frost didn't build on things that Lynch conceived) but if Twin Peaks without Lynch is late Season 2 and Twin Peaks without Frost is FWWM, I know which one I'd prefer.

Mark Frost wrote Albert's speech to Truman, and is therefore forever immune from criticism.

I don't know what really goes on behind the scenes, but when people say Frost keeps Lynch grounded I think they mean someone has to get all those crazy ideas into an actual script with specific scenes in set locations in a clear order.

I was surprised at how many of his motifs correlated directly to something from his life.

Even the name "Bushnell" turned out to be the name of a guy he actually knew.

I'd say episode 8 was the most Mark Frosty episode in terms of what it contained, although Lynch went to town on the execution. Frost seems far more interested in there being a mystical backdrop to the whole thing, and in making sense of it. We'll never know how things were carved up exactly, but it's a pretty safe guess that Lynch came up with the Red Room as an image for a scene, and Frost created the Black Lodge from it.

Both of those things did poorly from a critical and business standpoint, although FWWM is viewed much more positively now. Twin Peaks is better when both are involved.

Yeah, I really kept hoping she’d show up at some point. I think Heather would have made it a lot better.

I don’t know; I hated FWWM at first. It took several watches to really start to like it. Maybe the same is true of season three. I just can’t stand that there were several huge cliffhangers. Mark Frost has just now started talking about how he'd like to do a season four but it’s really up to Showtime right now. I really need that to happen in order to fully make sense of season three.

Season three is now up for preorder on Amazon. Six hours of special features, including several features that the blu-ray set will have that the DVD set won’t.
