somnambulist posted:Is this the thread where we talk about Dragula too? Not sure if it warrants it’s own thread since the shows are similar and on different months of the year (like all stars), but I just finished season 1 and it’s BANANAS. Season 2 starts in a week and I’m hyped as gently caress. You can catch season 1 on amazon prime. Going to check it out now. Thanks. Edit: Amazon Prime has a new interface for PS4. It looks a lot more like Netflix. Also, you have to search for The Boulet Brothers Dragula. Simply searching Dragula gets nothing but Dracula movies. Edit 2: I love how low budget this is, and it still looks better than the first season of Drag Race. And question, do these queens usually do spooky drag a la Sharon, or are they playing it up for the show? Nihonniboku fucked around with this message at 22:01 on Oct 24, 2017 |

from what I could tell, they were all sick motherfuckers beforehand. Ursula was one of the first queens I ever saw live and it was life-affirming.

I loving loved the first season of Dragula and cannot wait for Season 2. Drag Race is great for pretty drag but monster drag speaks directly to my soul.l

I haven't watched all of Dragula because of geoblocking and I let my OutTV sub expire when it's not Drag Race season because, well, gay TV is kind of awful, but I do like what I've seen of it, especially when they go shoot on location sea monster challenge. Remember when Drag Race used to shoot on location?

Hopefully season 2 the dressing room and the runway stage are bigger than a walk in closet. Those are some really cramped quarters.

The show is great but honestly I'm kinda lukewarm about the Boulet Brothers. I lived in east LA for almost a decade and never heard of them. They seem kinda wooden and uncharismatic in the show and I don't think I'd go see their show based on Dragula. Then again, I've never been that impressed by RuPaul herself. I respect her struggle and climb to the top but I think most of her queens elevate the art above her. Mind you, I think it's an overall good thing with queens grooming the next generation. It's just, personally, I don't find Ru or the Boulet Brothers all that interesting.

I felt like the talent was way more interesting than the hosts, which is great for TV, but doesn't really make me want to watch the Boulet Brothers in person or anything. I'd rather go see the people who are on their show. That said, it's one of the few reality shows where the person I wanted to win actually loving won so there is that

Goddamn Dragula is just awful. That was one of the dumbest loving things I've ever seen, and one of the brothers just sounds like Harold Ramis. What's the point of drag queens in bug filled coffins, exactly?

Entertainment hth Dragula is awesome, but it's definitely a niche/acquired taste. These are all queens you'll probably never see on Drag Race, at least in the foreseeable future.

I liked Dragula and will definitely be watching the second season when it drops. And I feel like the shorter Boulet brother had more fun with it than the taller one. Watching that last supper, and she definitely enjoyed the quips that the queens were throwing back and forth, while the taller one was being all stoic.

Dragula is campy weird poo poo and I appreciate it for those exact reasons. Despite mainstream drag being glamorous, drag is not required to be pretty. Though I admit the last challenge was a bit much for me. Ps Frankie Doom is reigning queen of my heart.

somnambulist posted:The final battle is bonkers. Let me know what you think. Wow, you were not kidding. I realllllly loved everything Vander and Melissa did, although Vander's glamour look was a little lame. But holy poo poo she made up for it with the puking during the filth number. Frankie was a little tame, especially in the horror number. I don't know how you follow the puke bit though, honestly. I completely switched polarity on Melissa and Loris from the first episode to the end - I was lukewarm on Melissa in the first few challenges but by the end I was completely rooting for her, but Loris just got worse and worse after the strong start. I was kind of shocked that Frankie made it to the top three, I could have easily seen her spot going to Meatball or even Xochi. That said, I loving love Frankie's drag and personality, and I agree that she definitely stepped it up more than either of the other two. I was pretty surprised that Foxy and Xochi got booted when they did. And yeah, the Boulet Brothers (do they have individual names?) are not the most charismatic, but those mirrored looks they do are everything. I was a little bleh on them at first but the shorter one in the dinner table reunion seance thing was loving killing it. And that Victorian look from the zombie challenge? Ugh. So good. Loved the Little Shop of Horrors looks too. My main complaints are related to budget - the sound quality is atrocious and the overuse of slowmo in the runway segments was frustrating. I'm so loving hype for season 2!

Yeah I pretty much agree with everything except Melissa. She is such a bitch and not in a good way, I couldn’t stand her. Those are the kinds of people I simply don’t want to be around.

But I was impressed, especially by Melissa's glamour and filth looks. I get what you're saying, but I thought she was kind of a fun "villain." It also sucks that she apparently got dragged online for not being as "horror" as the other queens. IDK. She was no phiphi, I think when she got pissed and bitchy it was for legitimate reasons.

They've always seemed kind of wooden to me in every interview that I've seen with them. The shorter one less so than the taller. I would watch a show like that where Duo Raw hosted probably. They always seemed fairly charismatic in the interviews and games I've seen with them.

RuPaul is a phenomenally talented entertainer. Even just as boy Ru talking weirdo new age bullshit in interviews, he is fascinating to watch. The man oozes so much natural charisma, he was truly born to be a performer. Even when you can tell he isn't super into something, he's fun af to watch. I hope that whenever this show unfortunately ends, if it ever does, Ru returns to a talk show or panel show or something again. Just turn What's the Tee? into a new VH1 Ru/Michelle show or some poo poo, thanks.
