Inescapable Duck posted:I thought that was one where the Smash player graciously crashing at a guy's house literally poo poo the bed. Other things the smash fanbase have done; bullied a small child out of his winnings because he played by the rules but not "their" rules and at one point tried to hold EVO hostage so they could hold a ~proper~ smash tournament, delaying the tournament of a more popular game. Which resulted in smash being kicked out of EVO for a year or two because of how consistently lovely they were.

Snowglobe of Doom posted:One Nation senator Malcolm Roberts also got booted which is great news because he was a fuuuuuuuucking aaaaaaaasshole of the highest magnitude. He's also a lying oval office in that he tried to duck out of the issue by swearing he'd never been a citizen of any other country but then people dug up a whole bunch of evidence that he'd been perfectly aware that he had, including an email he tried to send to the British consulate months after his election with the headline "Am I still a British citizen?" Not to mention that thanks to the quirks of preference deals and Senate quotas, he was elected with only 77 primary votes. Anti-shadenfreude: he's going to run in the Qld State election now and will probably get in.

And then he goes off on some weird screed about Apple creating some kind of FaceID dystopia. quote:Imagine - a friend tries to show you something funny on their phone and the moment you look at it the display goes black and the device brick-locks - only allowing emergency calls from there out until you were gone and the device told your friend ‘you shouldn’t associate with thieves - next time you have to buy a new phone’. You go into an store, and look at an apple device, and it alerts the store that you’re not welcome to use its products. You sign up for a job and someone puts your face through the computer and it immediately brings up a notice that you stole confidential corporate information and let it slip on the net.

It then only sends an encrypted message to the OS if it's someone it knows. Facebook is the one collecting and using biometric data of faces.

The point is that the microphone is on and capturing the ambient sounds to RAM. Maybe the data is discarded immediately, maybe it's not. Maybe whenever it hears the word "Google," or thinks it does, it permanently records the next thirty seconds. Maybe the data is supposed to be discarded but the rootkit that got installed when you downloaded Best Fart And Burp Piano has taken over that code and now it's sending everything it hears to Chairman Mao's Eternal Electric Brain. I remember about eight years ago (so, when iphone-style smartphones were still a new thing) I heard an NPR story about how the FBI had used their connections with the phone companies to remotely force-install some code on a suspect's phone that kept the microphones always active, turning it into a listening device. This was a simple flip-phone with limited attack vectors, not a modern Android running a full operating system full of holes. You think their techniques haven't kept up?
