This is dumb because mass pardon's don't do Trump, personally, any good - anybody pardoned can't plead the 5th if called to testify against him, and they go to jail for contempt if they refuse. And Trump only cares about himself.

Didn't he pardon Joe Apio-whatever for contempt charges?

Why not just send each other emails titled "FBI: WE ARE GUILTY - CRIMES LISTED WITHIN" and fill the subject in with photos and signed confessions and videos and documents proving your guilt? They had to have known this poo poo was illegal.

Ok, assuming arguendo they believed the suspect wanted a lawyer dog, what efforts if any did they make to provide that, in accordance with the 42nd amendment

Yeah but that's just getting old charges off the books so to speak. If you're literally in court and you commit contempt, and get pardoned for it right then and there, then they just ask you again and you're charged again with a new instance of the crime. It turns into a legal reducto ad absurdum that nobody has dealt with before.

It's grifters all the way down. I think the most credible argument against organized collusion between Trump campaign and the official Russian government is that they might have just been the targets of a series of con artists trying to get favours and money for claiming to be connections to Russia. Thing is, any decent espionage will happen in that exact deniable way, but there are probably a fair few scammers scamming other scammers in the mix.

If that happens we should probably expect majority support for state secessions and a literal second civil war, in which case we’re all hosed anyway.

Hell, Russian idea of not, Calexit looks better than a Republican run federal authoritarian plutocracy.

The Trump campaign were a bunch of morons who didn't expect to face any sort of scrutiny, but I give the Russian apparatus enough credit to not get caught with its hand in the cookie jar. If anything after the first few months they probably realized dealing directly with the Trump people was too loving risky.

This is not going to happen. Trump firing a special counsel will not cause popular unrest and the Republicans abetting treason will not ignite a civil war. People won't care enough and have too much to lose and little to gain.

According to the document Papadopoulos was mistaken on that count. Doesn't change that they were connected and he engaged on behalf of the campaign to use their connections. edit: It's the foot note on page 4 "Defendent PAPADOPOULOS later learned that the Female Russian National was not in fact a relative of President Putin." I'm guessing Papadopoulos was so stupid he misunderstood a wink wink nudge nudge thing.
