yea I remember her taking that stance and that's a REALLY good pivot. If we can turn the talking points from "THE SCARY RUSSIANS ARE COMING" to "This obvious shady poo poo with a billionaire and Russian oligarchs working together to smear a millionaire who also has her own weird ties to other, different, oligarchs, is a fantastic example of how the power here is completely in the hands of the wealthy" that'd be a really good improvement.

Why was everyone engaging w A lovely Poster and ignoring that beautiful cold open? Felix loving brought it between his last Bane and Joker riffs. I’m gonna be quoting “You merely adopted Islam, I was born in it” and “Watch me make this ambassador disappear.” I cackled out loud waiting for the light rail listening to it. Also, Felix loving up redux and then making GBS threads on the Silent Zen tour person.

Also, Virgil was loving bringing it to. I’m kinda glad they had technical difficulties on Sunday because this was loving great.

Finally, A lovely Poster, no one is saying give up. As many people have already said, this investigation will have no impact short of Mueller indicting Trump for breaking laws relating to his finances or something. It’s a far more productive use of our energy to promote viable leftist candidates and policy, and to show these dumbass centrist/Third Way ducks that their policies are worthless and only invite failure.

Jeff Sessions losing his job because of findings from this investigation (which is a real possibility) has a far bigger impact than a viable socialist getting elected to the city council in some midwest city.

Sure. But Jeff Sessions being fired is still good.

It helps if your opponents are under a dark cloud all the time. It depresses their side.

Any leftist's chance of getting elected in America probably improves in an environment where liberals/Democrats have a better chance of being elected. That environment is likely one where people's view of the Republican Party is extremely negative. Anything that makes people think the Republican Party and the Republican administration are bad (except things that go against the mission of the left, like 'they haven't sufficiently nuked Iran') is probably a net good for leftism.

The last PPP poll on this I saw said that 49% of voters support impeaching Trump. That is, politically, a good thing, even if he is never impeached.

It's also not like the Russia stuff has distracted too much from anything else. Voters seem fully aware of Trump's and the Republican Congress' disastrous healthcare reform attempts.

learn to embrace the insanity because its how we move forward from here. the problem with the democrats is that they're sitting there still trying to play chess, but the republicans long ago won the game, flipped the board and are burning down the room. we gotta adapt to the new world

People really overestimate the whole 'positive vision of the future'. Plenty of people have won elections with meaningless platitudes and/or a thoroughly grim view of things. Clinton just sucked. Most people on the left were fully prepared for her to win, and it's not like they were going to take her victory as a sign that centrism works in the public.

The problem is that liberals, the #resistance and the DNC are banking everything on the Trump investigation while furiously purging any vaguely left leaning people from Democratic party.

The Trump investigation is good and funny but there's nothing to really get excited about until the Democrats unfuck themselves, which looks pretty unlikely outside of stuff like Corey Booker getting on board with single payer.

Like, everyone though the pussy-grabbing video would sink Trump and it didn't, and every scandal after that hasn't sunk Trump, so excuse leftists for not getting too excited about this investigation.

Yes, not only do we need Trump's supporters to turn against him, the other side of the coin is that we need liberals to take this as a wake-up call to systemic problems. Instead, the Russia conspiracy has become a massive case study for the argument that affluent liberals have no real belief system beyond an accumulation of manners.

Calling for a deep-state coup against a president you hate is such a typically wingnut Republican affectation.

No one was going to come to a newfound belief in the neoliberal centrist managerial state as a good thing, but a whole lot of people would resign themselves to its inevitability. That was Clinton's job, to manage expectations downward into nothing.

We thought that the liberal End of History worldview imploded on 9/11, but apparently it carried on for a lot of rich and influential people right up through the 2016 election.

He also wrote some of the lovely edgelord stuff way back then, but like you suggest it is being blown out of proportion. It is easy ammo for people who dislike him for other political reasons IE neoliberals, or the sort of people who want to be outraged more than they want to build a better society, the kind to whom forgiveness is a foreign concept.
